  1. Keep duckie in a plastic tote this needs to be warm and safe for the bird at all times.Have a heat lamp with a 40 -100 watt bulb, adjust the height and wattage according to your baby's behavior, If it seems warm and settled, not huddling under the lamp it's probably warm enough. If it is away from lamp panting it's to warm or hot. Hay is the best bedding and floor cover for the bird.NEVER use news papers or have a smooth bottom in box, tub or pens. this will cause leg problem's. Make sure heat lamp is secured and area is large enough for duckie to either be in heat or leave  when it gets to hot and return when cold.

Feed the duckie a commercially prepared water fowl starter  for the first few weeks up to at least 6 weeks or a little longer. NEVER feed medicated chick starter or poultry feed, this is Fatal.Nothing moldy this is a killer for sure, No matter what age your duck is, No breads of Any kind!!! this could also kill your duckie as well WHY!! because it expands in the duck's crop and will choke it. Use a plastic or galvanized feeder. Always have fresh and clean water for the duckie, use a shallow bowl with a few clean pebbles in bottom, this will keep duckie from drowning. Ducks need to be able to submerge their heads to clear their sinuses, DO NOT let duckie swim UNATTENDED!!!

It must be able to exit water fast if it gets to wet or cold. This baby will eat immediately. Your duckie must be fully feathered before allowing it to swim depending on the type you are getting full feathers should be around 9-12 weeks of age. If do have others be aware these bigger birds will kill the baby if given the chance in water drowning it.

After your duckie is swimming good and has feathers in you can give it floating fish food and some dog food as well in small amounts get a quality unmedicated waterfowl or poultry ration availiable this you can get at most feed stores.

Ducks eat more in autmn and winter than summer and spring.

Your duckie will become a full duck like all animalsdo you really need a enclosed pen or shed for this bird to feel safe and to be safe.A latchable door is best keeps duckie in and predators out. Always put duckie up for the night they are very vulnarable at night. Make sure your bird/birds have hay or some kind of ground cover for feet and legs and to rest in, Can also make a few boxes for duckie to rest in and feel safe.

This little guy/girl will think of you as it's mom, so be prepared to teach it and train it to care for it properly. Ducks are very social animals/birds so one is not the best way to raise them,it needs a companion, preferably 3-4 is better.

The pen or shed needs to be roomy for your bird/birds, a 12x 8x3 is a good size or bigger depends on you.Needs a door for duckie to enter and exit and latch to stay closed, needs mess wire so bird/birds can see out and get air plus sun, also big enough for bird/birds to move around in and to either suck up sun or avoid when they want a cover to help keep wind dirt and rain off in wet weather.A tarp to either reflex sun off or to absorb. Duckes love to eat in grassy areas and swim in ponds looking for foods. They make wonderful pets when cared for right.
