In 10 days I'm getting braces & my friend who has braces say that they are a living nightmare! Is it true? Also what colour would be suitable if you wear a brown uniform which has red and black? Thank you! :) And what food will I be able to eat in the first 10days?

  1. 1)_ don't worry about what other people say or think.

    2)  better to go with just plain metal - the colors look gross to me.

    3)  you can eat fine - you just need to eat soft food.

  2. the first day is h**l.

you have to be good in tolerating pain and take in pain medication.

but after a month and after a few adjustments you will get used to it like its nothing but natural.

since you're new to braces, i think you should choose lighter colors first so that it would be an easy transition and you won't get scared of your mouth (which was my big mistake bec. i chose a dark color).

you could only eat soft foods.like soup and water..and water..

but you have to try to chew so that you would "heal" faster.

  3. well here's how it went for me. when you are getting them on it doesn't hurt but then your teeth start hurting like 4 hours later or when you first try to eat. my advice would be to take an extra strength pain reliever when you go and then for about the first 3 days try to stick with soft food like ice cream, yogurt, soup, smoothies, sandwiches with no crust (3rd day). after that it will hurt less and you can go back to eating regular food. also when you go into get your braces tightened you may want to take a pain reliever then too, just in case.

  4. Don't worry! I promise, if you take a pain reliever before you go, it doesn't hurt at all. I've had them for about 3 months. They don't hurt, they just leave your mouth sore. The tightenings, on a scale of 1-10, I'd rate it a 5 in soreness. :P I'm sure your mouth will be healed by 10 days, it usually takes only 2 for the soreness to go away. :) Foods like pudding, jello, anything soft is great! Best of luck!

  5. Okay,

They don't hurt while they are getting put on, but after they will be really sore!

For the first few days, your going to have to eat soft foods like,

    mashed potatoes

    ice cream

    pudding

    oatmeal

    noodles

    soup

    Things like that.

But there really not to bad after awhile, sometimes I even forget I have them!

And for colors, I would get just brown.

    Good luck!

  6. When you first get braces it won't hurt.

Then pain will come later and shouldn't last more than a few days.

Try to eat things that don't need a lot of chewing like yogurt, pudding, oatmeal, etc.

Be sure to follow all of your orthodontist's instructions.

If the pain is too much for you then take a painkiller like advil.

Getting clear is good because it will match anything but gets dirty easily.

I would suggest getting red, green, or purple.

  7. dont have green.. it will look like you have food in your teeth, or cabbage stuck in your braces :)

  8. i have braces at the moment. they are not a living nightmare dont worry. yeah you get annoyed with them from time to time but thats about it. half the time you dont know you have braces. doesnt matter about the colour really, but if you dont want people to notice your braces wear a colour like pink or something light, hardly anyone sees them then. food, well soup is always good, any thing that doesnt need much chewing. this only lasts a few days then you get used to them and can eat anything you would already. hope this helps and good luck with your braces =]

  9. I had my braces put in on the 12th August 2008. it i was there for 1hr and a 30 minutes while they was putting them in. it is soo boring. When you first have them in for about 30 minutes they don't hurt then after that you can feel them pushing against your teeth and that hurts. you got to drink everything through a sra to stop the contact with the teeth. For the frst week it is hard to eat as they hurt your teeth and your teeth feels sensitive. but you can buy over-the-counter pain relievers such as Tylenol, Advil, or Ibuprofen to reduce any pain. You can't eat  Gum usually is not recommended. It can get caught on braces and pull them off. In addition, the sugar in the gum can get around behind the braces and cause cavities.

In some cases, it may be possible for you to chew a sugar free, non stick gum such as Freedent® or Wrigley's Extra®. However, Freedent® and Wrigley's Extra® will still damage some kinds of braces.

You probably should not eat hard sticky, gooey or crunchy foods. Caramel, taffy, peanut brittle can stick on your braces and pull the braces off your teeth. You also need to be careful with crunchy foods like carrots and apples and hard rolls so that you do not knock your braces off your teeth. i had icy blue and minty green for my braces colours.

Btw im am 16 year old male

  10. I had a brace on for 3 and 1/2 years. The dentist told me I would have it on 18 months to 2 years and 3 1/2 years later he finally took it off.

I had one on the top to begin with and then half way through one on the bottom. Your teeth ache when you first have it on but it's nothing too bad, If you take some paracetamol then this will take off the pain. The only time your brace hurts is when the adjust it and that's only a slight aching, they might rub your lip at first but the dentist should give you something that you can put on to prevent this if not put some bongela on!

I had pink on mine just have a look when you go they will show you all the colours you can have!

Having my brace on was the best thing I ever did my teeth are now really straight I just wish the dentist whitened them when he took it off (If you haven't already guessed my dentist was to say the least rubbish)

Good Luck and don't worry it's nothing!

Forgot to say about food I was eating normal food straight after but if your teeth are hurting eat soup or something soft like pasta

  11. i like getting the rubber bands in black because the color contrasts with the color of your teeth to make your teeth look whiter..

    eat milkshakes

and make sure they give you wax bc the braces tear up the inside of your mouth

  12. I have braces and their not a living nightmare... they may not be pretty but the results are to die for!!

I think you should just get no colour its much better..

First 10 days are literally the worst.

    Eat:- Soup

          - Soft bread

          - Yoghurt

          - Mashed up food

Theres not alot you can eat but everyones different... i could eat by  4 days but some cant eat till 2 weeks so it all depends on you and how crooked your teeth are...

    Good luck x

  13. I've had braces for 2 1/2 years, and I know that braces aren't all that bad. You can eat anything you want as well, but stay away from chewy food like gum, air heads, Swedish fish, etc. Eat things like oatmeal, yogurt, and other soft food until you think you can handle hard/normal food again.

  14. They aren't a living nightmare!

I got them in year 7 for a year, I'm in year 10 now and you know what i have perfect teeth! They are my best feature!

    You will not regret it!

For me i was able to eat any food I wanted they didn't affect me whatsoever but some peoples teeth would be tender so if you feel any pain you should try to eat softer food like soups mashed potato etc.

You will be able to change the colour of your bands every month or so, you should experiment!

Also don't get white! They stain and it looks gross, also not yellow looks like you have food in your teeth and for me purple lost its colour to a grey.

It doesn't matter you don't need to co ordinate with uniform but if you really really want to then get a red? Just experiment you have plenty of times to change it.

Remember don't be scared its so easy it doesnt hurt at all and you will have such perfect teeth in then end its all worth it!

    Good Luck =)

EDIT: Also the website the first person gave looks brilliant! But at the dentist you will not have that much choice, just the simple colours but it looks good to decide what you like, I wish i had thsi when i had my brace!
