Im getting a cockatiel an i wont to learn how to look after them an what they need to live?

Question

can some one plz tell me how to look an care for a cockatiel

because im very new to lookin after one a i wont to make shore i can look after one before i can take up the responsabilaty for one becuase i have looked after a quaker parrot before but i do no that they are much different then a cockatiel

First, all birds are generally the same. Think of them as human toddlers about 2-4 years old and what you would do for them and you basically have it.  Cooking, cleaning, playing, giving lots of attention.  Birds need to be out of the cage more than in it, cooked a variety of foods, and unlike human toddlers you can't train them to clean up their messes; you have to do it.  Look up to see what plants, wood, and foods are poisonous.  check out http://www.finchniche.com    She's a friend and she has the answers to more birds than just the finches she breeds.  or http://www.pamperedpeeps.com  These should get you started.

To take care of a cockatiel you need to buy a big enough cage so they have enough room to move around.  In the cage you need a mirror, a twig perch with different widths (to exercise the feet), a perch with a nail file feel to it (to file the nails), a cuttle bone, a toy that the bird can destroy, and a toy that will hold up for a while.  You also need wood pellets for the bottom for easy clean-up.  You need to spend 30-40 minutes with your bird every day so they have enough attention.  You also need to keep fresh water in there at all times.  You also need to keep millet in the cage.  Also, make sure that there is food in there at all times.
