  1. its a hamster not a baby.!!!

Come on, your really panicking over a bloody hamster???

Try being 7 weeks pregnant at 20 and only been with your partener for 3 months, then you can panick

  2. lol i had the same problem.

Food: give fresh fruit every 2-3 days, make sure you look in their home to make sure they dont store it (it will spoil) nothing too watery. give them hamster every day. refill every 2 days to save on quality. only fill it a quarter of the way full or else she'll become bloated.

Housing: et suitable house. do NOT get a wire cage, as they hamster can slip through the bars and escape. do not get pine bedding due to hamster respitory disease, and give it a nice igloo, or house done to sleep in. put some toilet paper so your hamster can make a nice bed.

Water: get a suitable water bottle and hang it in cage. refill ever 3-4 days unless empty.

Handling: this is one of the most important things. make sure you handle your hamster every day. ill attach i taming guide too.

First watch your hamster for a few days to find out when it is awake and active - the best time to start taming. Note its favorite foods so you can use them to overcome its fear.

Now start putting food straight on the cage floor, so your hamster gets used to your hand and learns that it brings food and means no harm. After a few days, leave your hand there while the hamster eats.

When your hamster is confident enough to eat beside your hand, put the food in the palm of your hand. It may be some time before the hamster will eat from your hand without fear. When it does, you can stroke it gently with one finger along its back, the way the fur grows. NEVER stroke its head.

Next, get your hamster used to being picked up. When it is eating from your hand, cup the other hand over it, and lift it gently a little way of the ground for a few moments at a time.

After a few more days, if your hamster seems happy being lifted up, you can take it right out of the cage in your cupped hands.

Play with it over a table, letting it run from one hand to the other. Soon it will be confident enough to run along your arm.

  3. look on the internet :

    http://www.allaboutpets.org.uk/Pet-Leafl...

gr8 site u shud check it out

  4. You should have done this research already, Just get a book from the pet store, hamsters are quite simple, but you do need a book just incase.. Oh wait..Internet.. google you can find out everything in there!

Have a great time with the lil hamster

  5. whatever you do, dont put it up someones butt!

  6. lol

Why u panicking? Hamsters are great fun to look after and require minimal care. Firstly, change food and water daily, and clean the whole cage once a week. As for toys, you dont need to make anything as you can get toys from good pet shop suppliers and they're pretty cheap too.

Also, you can give your hamster the cardboard from used kitchen/toilet roll for them to play with. They walk through it and when they're bored they chew it!

Good luck and have fun with your new hamster! x

toy making is very fun. it also helps you understand what your hamster is into. they all have different personalities like humans do.

you will need something along the lines of these:

    Cage:

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

Syrian hamsters prefer the open feeling and fresh air of a barred cage. if it is necessary, an aquarium is still acceptable.

    Bedding:

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

CareFresh is a good choose for bedding. you can also use Aspen wood shavings. Do NOT use pine or cedar shavings. they contain phenols which create respiratory problems in rodents.

    Food:

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

Hamsters have certain balances that certain foods will provide. it is not a good idea to get a brand with a lot of sunflower seeds. i like to think of them as hamster cupcakes - they taste good but will cause weight gain if there are too many.

    Outside the cage:

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

Hamsters love to roam the house in an excercise ball. they have to freedom to explore and you don't have to worry about him going where hes not supposed to.

with the cage set that i have selected up at the top, thats all that you should need if you buy another cage that isn't a started kit, you will need :

    an exercise wheel:

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

hamsters are nocturnal. since humans aren't, they will be in need of something to entertain them. hamsters can run up to five miles a night on a wheel!!!!

    a water bottle:

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

    a hut to sleep under:

    http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

if the hamster doesn't have a hut in the pet store, it is likely that it will not use it. its there preference.

you should clean the cage every week. the water should be replace every other day and it should be fed daily. it is reccommended that you play with the hamster for at least ten min a day. they will require taming before youcan play with it and get it used to your hand. to tame the hamster, let it rest in its new surrounding for like two days. on the third day, start to put your hand in the cage. don't try to pick it up or chase it, it will make it afraid of your hand. then what you have to do is keep it in theere for like ten min a day for around a full week. then after that, start putting food and treats into your hand. then after it feels safe around it, it may try to come and eat. this won't happen in just a few days, it may take a while. don't give up on it though. it will get it eventually, good luck!!

  8. Well, Here is a list of things before you get your furry friend.

Cage (a normal hamster cage will be fine)

food ( ask the person you bought it from what food the hamster eats)

         Food bowl

         Water bottle or bowl

Bedding ( stay away from pine and cedar or scented.) The best  bedding would be carefresh because it deodorizes and will not harm the pet.

       wheel or roll-around-ball

and that is all you really need. It may seem like alot but it isn't.

You can make homemade toys, just use your imagination.

  9. http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/rabbit...

  11. so i have had a hamster and it is really easy you must give it fresh water each day and change its bedding every 2 days. i would put it in a roomy cage with lots of things for it to do, using simple things like toilet paper tubes are such an exciting thing for you hamster and its practical and cheap. they like things to chew on so give them plenty of hard things to gnaw. they like fresh vegetables but dont tend to eat meat. if your thinking of keeping them outside make sure it has a waterproof cover to protect from weather but if kept inside be sure to keep it high of the ground if you have other animals eg:dog cats. feed it once ever 2 day with about 50g of food, it will not be tame when you first get it so leave it in its cage for 2-3 days before you begin to interact with it and then it should soon be tame. if and when you hamster bites you dont be shocked it may hurt a little but this is its way of defence it may also bite you by accident if you have anytrace of food on your hand it may try to eat it not knowing its your finger. hope you have a great time with your hamster lots of happy memorise and just make the most of it because on avergae they only live for 2 years:(

  12. don't get one until you have bought all that you need. you will need a cage, one with tubes and tunnels is best so your hamster doesn't get bored. you will need sawdust, hamster food, a wee house or similar for it to sleep in, bedding, water bottle(usually supplied with the cage) toys, and an exercise ball or pen for it to run around in when you are cleaning the cage and for exercise. once a week is usually enough for cleaning the cage, but make sure you give it fresh water everyday, and food every two days

  13. Ok well you can make homemade toys and so on but it might be less hassle to buy them from your local pet store. You need to make sure your hamster has enough things to play with so it doesn't get bored and occasionally you can give them some fruit and vegetables and hammy treats. You need to make sure they have food every day and you should change the food and water every other day. You should clean the whole cage out once a week with a pet safe disinfectant, and you need to hold them every day to look for any signs of illness or injuries. Make sure the cage s big enough, and they love tubes and stuff, you can improvise with toilet rolls etc. You should of really researched all of this before, but i hope you have enjoyable times with your hamster. Any other questions email me!

  14. Use cardboard tubes as toys. Change his cage once a week. Make sure he has fresh water and plenty of food. Take him out of his cage and play with him, let him run round to get exercise.

    Love that lil fur ball!!

  15. Firstly, don't panic. And you should ask the person who sells the Hamster to you. and your parents should know too. (sorry if im wrong but you sound like a teenager).

    1. No, buy toys from the pet shop. And hamsters just gnaw on toys, not play with them. So dont make anything yourself.

    2. You need hamster bedding, and hamster food, and obviously a secure hamster cage. If you have a cat, I recommend Rotastak. Most pet shops will have that brand. But also ask the pet shop.

    3. You clean out the cage hmm, weekly I'd say. Else you'll have a stinky cage, full of poo and things. Bedding should be cleaned and replaced weekly. And feed them a bit of food every day. Most hamsters save food for when they want it. Holding it in their cheeks.

    4. If you have problems with your hamster after you get it, ask here on Yahoo! Answers, and seek vet advice.

  16. well you should no these things but illl tell you you nedd to get food water cage all of this and you can make homemade toys as long as theyre not tol pointy or sharp and edible-hope websites he;lp

  17. Do your research before you get one, do you know how long it will live for example?  I'd go for something with a longer life span personally.

    Good luck.

  18. Well first of all you need a reasonably sized cage, it doesn't have to be one of those posh ones with all the tubes and stuff it can be a plain one, you can buy the extras later. Then you need to have some bedding for the hamster. I reccomend wood shavings, it prevents bad smells, you need to cover the bottom of the cage with it, at least 2- 3 cm thick. You can also put it special hamster cotton for them to sleep in. If you spot any soiled bedding must remove immediately! This prevents bacteria from spreading.

Then you need to make sure they have a different variety of food as this keeps them interested in their food. You can buy a mixed hamster feed at pet shops. They also need water so you can buy a hamster drink bottle which you can clip onto the cage and the hamster will find it. Give it some treats once in a while to earn their friendship. Hamsters love fresh fruit and veg so feed them only a bit as a treat. Remove fresh fruit and veg after a day they have been in the cage otherwise they can go mouldy.

Hamsters like to sleep in the dark so you have to provide a little nesting box for them to sleep in. They also need to run to keep fit so you can buy a wheel at the pet shop and clip it onto the cage. Some cages already provide a wheel. Or you can also buy a play ball, just pop the hamster in it and off they go! Never leave them alone in the cage for more than 30 minutes. I left mine alone in a ball and i didn't see it and it fell down the stairs. RIP Toffee.

Hamsters are nocturnal so its best not to disturb them while they are sleeping or they will become grumpy. They are also social animals and and have their own territory so never keep two hamsters together. They are also known as cannibals and will fight until one of them dies. Robo and Dwarf hamsters can live together in pairs. Its cruel to keep one of them alone.

Remember to change its bedding at least once a week. They also need to go to the vets to get their teeth trimmed otherwise they will grow too long and then can't eat. You can put a block of wood in their cage for them to chew on so they can trim their teeth themselves but they still need to go to the vets to have a teeth trim. Their nails also need to be trimmed. Never do this yourself as you might hurt the hamster.

Treat your hamster well and it will give you hours of fun and excitement.

PS If you have other pets e.g cats, dogs, keep them away from your hamster's cage. Never keep other rodents together with a hamster. Rabbits are ok.

  19. ohh how sweet i have three hamsters , what i give em as homemade toys are bits of newspaper the women love em  and you need a cage , hay a water bottle ohh and in the cage you should have a hamster wheel and a place were they can sleep also buy hamster food(:)) and give em slices of carrots and apples they love em:) you should change the water once every 2 days and at first you better cover the cage with a cloth but after a day take it off because they wont be used to it maybe you now the change and at least clean the cage once a moth and put the cage were there is light :):):) tell me how things go       kezia

  20. First before ever getting a pet you should know about it in advance. If you dont know what to do research and adoopt at a later date. You can make toys from toilet paper tubes and paper towel toys. You need:

    1) Cage: Barred perferably

    2) Food: Mixes, fruits (NOT CITRUS OR CANNED OR FROZEN!), treats, mineral chews, etc.

    3) Water bottle

    4) Bedding: Aspen is the best also Carefresh. Dont get pine or cedar.

    5) Toys: Wheel or hamster ball.

    6) Nesting material: Make a bed

    7) A hut.

    8)Food dish.

    9) Add ons.

Every day you should give fresh food and water and scoop soiled bedding. Every week you should clean their cage!

    Hope this helps!

  21. Hii ,,,Don't Worry hamsters Are Easy To Look After ......:)

I Used To Have A Syrian Hamster Called Sandy , He Was Soo Sweet And Loving And Only Bit Me Once , That Was when i first got him and he wasn't used to me holding him.

You Feed Them normal hamster food as their main food but you can also feed them fresh fruit and veg such as Carrots , Grapes , Lettuce , Apples , Raisins Etc.....

It Is extremely Important That Your Hamster Has A Chance To Exercise Every day ! So You Can Get Him A Wheel To Roll Around In But It Must be big enough for your hamster so that your hamster doesn't have to bend his back when inside.

You Should Have Toys Inside , Tubes , Tunnels , Etc ,,  mmmhmmm Homemade Toy's I Don't Know About but I'm Sure It Couldn't Hurt As Long As It's Made Out Of Suitable Materials , But To Be On The Safe Side Check it Out On The Web

When Handling Your Hamster Make Sure He Is Fully Alert And Awake , Try Not To Wake Him Up Suddenly If He Is Asleep.Don't Approach Him from behind When U Try 2 Hold Him As It Might Frighten Him ,, Remember Hamster's Don't Have Very Good Eyesight.Let your hamster Smell You As Hamsters Rely On Smell Rather Than Sound , Sight Etc...Lift Him Up Slowly , Cup him in your hands to ensure he is safe. And Hold Him Over Your Chest Or Lap ,, I Found it Easier To Hold Him Sitting Down But That's My personal Opinion , You May Think Differently.

NEVER Scruff A Hamster To Pick Him up as this can put immense pressure  on the head region possibly resulting in a prolapsed eye.

When Cleaning Him Out you should use Sawdust On the bottom and u should use a safe bedding for him  sometimes when ur out u see coloured cotton wool bedding , don't get that to be honest it looks unsafe for the hamster as colours have been used in it.carefresh is a good option.

Theres no need to put newspaper on the bed , like u would for a guinea pig.

he should be cleaned out at LEAST once a week , if you have time to clean him out more than that ,,, that is good.

Try not to suddenly change your hamsters home , or food etc... as this can be distressing .there should be a place for your hamster to snuggle down and hide away when he wishes in his cage. You Must Ensure ur hamster Has fresh water at ALL times !!!!

If Your hamster gets Diarrhoea It means u r feeding the hamster too many greens and should only allow it to eat its hamster mix , But on the other hand if it has constipation then u r  not feeding ur hamster enough greens as u may of guess and feeding him a small amount of greens should relieve him.

if u get a long haired hamster , it will need grooming every other day to prevent the coat getting dirty and matted  , u should use an old soft , dry toothbrush. , this is a little bit of information to help u with ur new hamster , i really do hope this helps u out my syrian hamster lived a long happy healthy life of three years,, just remember Some of these key points and ur hamster should be fine ,  , I've got most of this information from books and leaflets i have got , my book is The official RSPCA pet guide care for your hamster and I've got a supreme harrys guide to hamsters and a pets at home guide to caring for your syrian hamster ,,,

Sorry I Keep saying Him ,, I Mean Him/Her lol

Like i said before i hope this information helps u out x

  22. First of all congrats on your new pet. I have owned many hamsters in my life time. Hamsters are the best known and one of the most popular of all the small rodents kept as pets. They live on average for two to three years. I think the ideal home for a Syrian hamster is a large wire cage with a plastic base no smaller than 60cm x 30cm floor space, by 30cm tall (higher if possible, as they do enjoy climbing on different levels). Wood should be avoided as it absorbs urine and quickly becomes smelly and unhygienic.  Dust-extracted shavings make good bedding for all types of hamsters, although some people prefer to use sawdust for long-coated types to prevent shavings getting tangled in their hair. You should also provide shredded paper or dry peat as nesting material. Site your hamster’s home away from draughts, sunlight and direct heat. Clean out the cage at least once a week. You can go to any pet store & get a hamster diet. It is good to have something it can chew on because their front teeth grow pretty quickly. Fresh water must always be available from a free-access drinking bottle fastened to the cage. I would put my old toliet paper card bored rolls in the cage & my hamsters would have a blast. It's also a good idea to get a wheel for them to exercise on. Good luck with your new pet I know u will love it.

  23. personally i would get a tube big enough for the hamster to crawl through, insert the tube into my ****, and let the little blighter run around in there.

    :)

  24. Chill out dude, you'll be fine, hamsters are pretty easy to look after.

You need to get: a cage, sawdust, hamster bedding (the fluffy stuff that looks like cotton wool), a water bottle, a food bowl and some hamster food.

The hamster will need exercise, so you should put a wheel in the cage or get a hamster ball.

Hamsters also need something to gnaw on, otherwise their teeth get too long and it hurts them. You should buy like little log things and stuff that they can chew on. (If you don't they will just chew on the bars and it makes a really annoying noise.)

If you do make any homemade toys, make sure its nothing that the hamster can eat, or has no paint or glue or anything like that on it, because that could like kill it. But there are loads of toys you can buy which are quite cheap.

Basically, all you have to do to look after it feed it and refill it's water bottle every day. You should also clean the cage out about once a week. If you don't it won't harm the hamster, it will just smell really bad.

When you buy the hamster, you can pick up a leaflet, which tells you what you do, or just ask the dude at the pet shop.

    Good luck with your hamster!

    Hope I helped!! =) =)

  25. First things first: don't panic. You'll only make things worse.

For a hamster you will need:

A cage (large, but not with more than 2 levels including the base. Hamsters lack tales and so can be injured from falling from lower highs than other animals)

Wood shavings to go in the base of the cage

    Nesting material Eg shredded paper

    Food dish

    Watter bottle

Exercise wheel (very important. Hamsters need lots of exercise)

A hamster food mix (of possible add about 30% budgie and/or canary seed in and some dog biscuits, but the packet hamster mix is fine)

A nest box (ideally wood. You also need to be able to get in so you will need a removable lid)

Disinfectant to clean out the cage.

An exercise ball to let him run around the room (or if this isn't possible a carry case or similar to keep him in whilst he is being cleaned)

Hamster are easy to maintain, but they are totally dependant on you, therefore you need to look after them. Your hamster will need to be given fresh food and water each day (evening time is probably best), and will need his cage cleaning out with disinfectant once a week. As hamsters hoard food you need to find and dispose of the store (it may well be 'marked' in urine) however always replace a small amount of food here so as not to upset him. Your hamster will use is exercise wheel a lot so you need to get a 'silent' one (if possible) and ensure he isn't in your bedroom (if there is nowhere else during the day move him at night otherwise unless you are a very sound sleeper he will keep you up).

Cardboard tubes are a fun and inexpensive toy for small animals, and you can make toys (and a nest box) from cardboard and wood. I would suggest that unles you can find an animal-safe glue you use slot-and-tab construction (for card) or joints which lock together (for wood). Glues could be toxic and nails could cause injury when the hamster chews his way to them.

Get a book from a pet shop even if you do use the internet for reaserch. The book will have information about health that you may need in an emergencey, and accessing the internet may be difficult

    Hope this helps

  26. When u bring it home put it in the cage with fresh water (changed daily) and a little food (not too much its really easy to overfeed). Leave it to get used to its suroundings in a quiet area and resist the urge to start picking it up straight away. I change the sawdust in my cage once a week but remove the smelly wee stained stuff daily. You will find your hammy always wees in the same corner so you can train them to use a small dish or hamster potty to make removing dirty litter easier. Buy an excercise ball but only 20mins a day. Have fun, hammys are the best pets.
