  1. If you collect DVDs, you might consider switching to Bluray if you can afford it. DVD will be around for a while, but Bluray matches and exceeds the quality of other modern TV devices and hence, DVDs days are numbered. Bluray images are almost 8 times more detailed than DVD. 300,000 pixels vs. 2,000,000! Also, HD audio is uncompressed so it will sound more like a good quality CD than an ipod file.

    If you can afford even a bit more, a Bluray burner is a great backup device. One standard Bluray disk holds 50 gig of info, almost 12 times as much as a DVD.

    If neither of these things interest you, then stick with a standard DVD drive. They definitely cost less and they aren't going anywhere soon.

  2. You don't NEED Blu-ray, original dvd's are not dying out. hd dvd is dead, but regular dvds will be around for awhile. i have a normal dvd drive in my laptop and i think its perfectly fine. unless you really want to have high definition movie playing on your dvd, then i'd say you're fine without one.

  3. Like all formats in the past standard definition DVDs will eventually be discontinued but I believe this is still many years away.  If your buying a computer monitor that is hi-def or if you plan on connecting your computer to a HD television you might consider the option.  If hi-def isn't important to you, I think a standard dvd drive would be just fine and you will probably be able to buy standard DVD's throughout the useful life of your new computer and beyond.

  4. If you can afford it,,then get the blue,,,,,,,,,,it is the next thing,,,

    It will be everywhere soon,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,...

    Don't get left behind,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

    YOU NEED 2G OF MEMORY FOR DVD;;;;;;

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    AHAHAHAHAAHHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHHA

    STICK WITH IPOD

  5. Regular DVDs are still going to be around and blu-ray technology is just too expensive right now. If you don't have a blu-ray DVD player you won't be able to watch the movies on regular TV so you're going to be stuck watching them on your computer so you're also going to need a good video card, fast dual core processor like pentium, and at least 2 GB of RAM.

  6. It took over 10 years for the VHS video tape to die out after the DVD was introduced.  It's still not quite out yet.

  7. I Love!!! my blu-ray player it's awesome as long as you have a1080p screen...personally i think blu-ray's best if you plan on watching movies in HD and you wouldn't believe the quality of HD till you see it...
