And when i am getting them, do they put a metal thing in my mouth to keep my lips spread apart? and if so, does it hurt?! how long does it take to get braces?

  1. they put a plastic thing in your mouth to keep it open. It doesnt hurt when they are getting on, only hours later. later your teeth will be sore and youll need really soft stuff to eat. i found that when i had them if you chew even though it hurts i think it goes away faster. i think =P

the plastic thing doesnt hurt. itll take maybe 1.5 hours. In later appointments when you get your wire tightened it may hurt while they are doing it.

but dont be scared! =] good luck <3

  2. first they call u in and they put a plastic thing is your mouth so they can get to your teeth then they take every little bracket and cement them on then they pop in the wire put in the colors it wont hurt when they put them on after it will i recommend taking tylenol before your appointment eat soup and yogurt because you cant chew for at least 4 days- 1 week braces take like 45 minutes- 1 hour to get onthey will feel funny for like a week

  3. dont be scared they are not that bad.

they wont hurt as they put them on but they will for about a week later, it kind of feelings like you just have something constantly pushing against your teeth.. so i suggest you take paracetamol every few hours to kill the pain.

i would suggest to eat very soft foods.. ie soup, bread, mashed potato.. things that will not be hard to bite.

it doesnt take that long. maybe around 30 mins?

  4. a few hours later it hurts..it will hurt for 3 days or more..by the way..choose purple..it looks good

  5. putting them on is not painful AT ALL . they use a thing to keep your mouth open , it doesnt hurt but it makes a little harder to swallow, but it doesnt hurt. and also, its not painful right after you get them, but the next day or a couple hours later your teeth will be a little sore from the moving and its a little hard to eat.. try eating soup for the first couple of days or pasta .. just soft foods..

  6. It probably will feel uncomfortable for the first few hours, but the second day expect to feel pain.  It isn't that bad =/  Try to eat everything that is soft and gradually it will feel better.  Yes they do put a PLASTIC (not metal) thing in your mouth to keep your mouth apart and your mouth will just feel dry, not hurt.  It takes about 45 mins to 1 hr to get them on the first time.  Don't worry and just relax when they put them on =D

  7. I say definatly floss!

It usually hurts for the first two weeks.

The pain level depends on the person and how good they take care of they're teeth. Also how much pain they can handle.

You might feel like your teeth are going to fall out, or simply that it has a lot of pressure.

I'd eat b4 getting your braces on because you may not be hungry once they're on.

If you need bands for over bite WEAR THEM!

It wont take to long for them to be put on.

  8. I actually got mine yesterday. it really isn't that bad. did u have an expander or anything? if so, this is WAY less painful! it only hurts the day you get them (in the evening) and (for me) a little bit the next day, although some people think the second day is worse. I would stock up on mashed potatoes if I were you! lol! they put a plastic/rubber sort of thing in your mouth. it doesn't hurt it's just a little weird at first. it took about an hour and a half for me. don't be scared! If it's uncomfortable or something, just think about how nice your teeth will be when you're done with them :)

(they will tell you what to eat and stuff, so don't worry about that)

    hope this helps

  9. Idk how long it probably depends on the orthandonist. It feels really tight for a few days after and a few days after every time you get them tightend. oh dont eat broccoli or cheetos. cuz they get stuck in your teeth easily.

  10. mmmk. you go in brush your teeth. and they tell you actually everything they are going to do. if i can remember right they put a cheek separator in your mouth. (doesn't hurt at all) and start putting the braces on. the only part that hurt for me was when they had to but the metal on for the back molars. my mouth started bleeding. and then it kinda hurt but not really when they put the actually things on. like you felt pressure but that's about it. i ate right after i got them on. =) it took about 45 minutes to do everything. but then a few hours later it was kinda hard to even talk. eventually over days it wont hurt as much just be sore. but the day after  yea. it does hurt.

    =]]

  11. it depends on how bad your teeth are. It wouldn't hurt that much but it can get painful the more you think about how much it's going to hurt? Get what i'm saying. You won't be able to eat for a few hours but only soft foods and liquids! Your mouth might be sore along with your lips. But it's ok. You should ask the dentist these questions before! :o

  12. lol im getting mine off monday... but anyways ya it hurts for like the first week well at least it did for me.  It will be hard to eat so just take like a pain killer.  you will still have pain regardless but. Do something like play on your computer or something it will kind of keep your mind off your teeth.

Edit: Its not that bad in all because think about it your getting straight teeth.

  13. It hurts after you get them. Eat stuff like milk shakes and smoothies or softer foods. If it hurts a lot you can take a tylonol or advil or something. Yeah, they will put a plastic thing to keep your mouth open so that they can fit the tools and stuff in there. It doesn't hurt as much as it is uncomfortable. It takes a couple hours to get them on. Don't be scared. Really.

  14. don't be scared i work for an orthodontist.what they are going to do.is put a plastic thing in your mouth to hold your lips open .there are no shots.all they will do is glue them on your teeth.it takes about an hour.it does not hurt at all.i had them when i was 12.
