  1. Oh honey.. thats great. I've a lot of family back there.

The best advice I can give you is to be very careful when being outside. There are a lot of theieves and con artists depending on the ara that you live in. Try making some friends so then you don't feel alone and that you can have a great time. They will also tell you the pros and the cons of the city.

Most of all try to enjoy yourself.. after all its Italy.

  2. Hi, I was stationed in Naples for 3 years and just came back to the States in February.  I would say this about your car question...get what they call a Naples beater when you get there.  Initially they will have you staying at the Navy Lodge in Gricignano di Aversa (unless you are going to be living in the barracks) for about a month probably.  It is very easy to get a car there.  On base there are usually a good supply of locally used vehicles.  I had a reliable 20 year old BMW there that I got from my sponsor.  It was an ugly, beat up looking car, which discouraged thieves but it ran great.  If you bring your car from the States you should be careful where you park it.  If you do bring it with you, you might consider getting a beater too.  As for the driving, be prepared it is quite a bit different than driving here.  If you can drive in NYC you will have no problems driving in Naples.  Just try not to get too pissed off!  Overall, I liked living in Naples and found that the pros outweighed the cons.  I lived in Bacoli, (Fusaro) and loved it there, plus I met my wife in Naples!  Good luck and enjoy!

  3. Hi Carla, ok first things first, have you found a house? If not then try to look at the Pozzuoli and Arco Felice areas, they are just outside Naples, near the base and alot of service families live there. If you do decide to take your car, its easier for parking as well there as most homes, unlike Naples have private garages! Most of the homes out there are also with a breathtaking view of the Naples or Pozzuoli bay......wow!  Are you married? Kids? If so you should send them to the school on the Base which is very good. last but not least.....get a good guide book and then enjoy. If you want anymore help just send me a mail and I'll be glad to help you!

  4. The posting before mine gives you good car advice. Go with it. If you've got a nice car and just must take it with you then you'll need to find storage on base for it 'cause you don't want to run around Naples with it. You mauy want to use YOUR car for long road trips.

Learn Italian and always mind your manners. You'll get help with a smile and not with a snear.

  5. Hi Karla...I live in Naples!! I think it's one of the most beautiful city in the world!!Also W.Goethe,a very famous  German writer used to say "SEE NAPLES AND THEN DIE..."

If you come in these days, you will find CONCORSO IPPICO, an important horse competition setting in Plebiscito Square...

However, Naples is a big city so such as all big cities, there are thieves and security problems!!You have to pay attention if you walk in some areas, for example Garibaldi Square, near the rail station!! Don' t wear any jewels, necklaces or expensive watches...If you want, I will you suggest some itineray when you arrive here!!Have a good time!!

  6. just watch out for the dialect, its different everywhere in italy and naples seems even more different
