Im getting two rats and i need a cage..?

FORMULA (in inches)

Multiply the cage dimensions (length by width by height) to get the volume of the cage in cubic inches.

Divide the result by 3456.

The result of that is the number of rats your cage can comfortably hold.

EXAMPLE Martin's R-695

30" x 18" x 36" =19,440

Divide by 3456

19,440/3456=5.625 rats

so if you do it, it tells you it can only fit one rat!

That cage is okay- but you're going to have to check often and make sure that urine(Haha, I sound scientific. lol) isn't building up on the ramp or the second floor becase it is known to couse some kinds of diseases. For my two rats I have a wire ramp and second and third floors and cover up the wire with fleece or other kinds of cloth.

This site lets you type in the measurments for your cage and it will tell you how many rats it can hold. I found it very handy when I first got my rats. I built my own cage because I couldnt find any cages that were cheap and big enough so I would recomend the same to you.

That cage is cute and looks nice, but it'd make a better hamster or gerbil cage. Rats need at least 2-2.5 square feet, per rat, of cage space.

This site is good for rat cages. Many rat owners/breeders swear by it, and me aswell. For two rats I recommend:

The Rat Lodge (R-680)

    * 30" x 18" x 24"

    * Two ramps

    * Two balconies

    * Drop-in 3½" plastic pan

___________________________

The Rat Retreat (R-685)

    * 30" x 18" x 24"

    * 3½" drop in style plastic pan

    * 2 full levels

    * Ramps with small landing in between so ramp isn't steep

    * Front door for access to bottom level

    * Full flip-top lid for easy access to top level

The Rat Tower (R-690)

    * 24" x 14" x 36"

    * Three ramps

    * Two balconies

    * Full middle floor

    * Drop in 2 1/2" plastic pan

Remember, bigger is better! If you can afford to buy them a cage fit for them, they'll be happy all their life :D It may seem expensive at first glance, but cages are their home. And it is a one time purchase.

I would probably only use the cage you showed as a cage to put them in if they needed to go to the vet or a temporary place to put them when you clean their real cage. If you're unsure, use this tool. Very Handy:

Idealy, rats should have 2 cubic feet each. If you can provide rats with a good home, you shouldn't get them at all. Hope this helps!

LOOKS ALITTLE SMALL,  THEY LIKE TO SCAMPER AND CLIMB.  THEY WOULDNT HAVE MUCH ROOM IF THERE ARE 2 OF THEM.  PETSMART ALWAYS HAS CLEARENCED BIGGER CAGES IF $ IS THE ISSUE.
