  1. Talk to the school, they can tell you exactly what most people in your situation through their school do.  Some schools have programs, you really will not find a federal program.  Depending on your income and if you are a dependent of your parents you may qualify for HUD housing but thats a last resort.

Odds are you will not qualify for help like this, VERY few people do...  Get a job and get a couple roommates.  Get a place close enough to school that you can walk or bike to save money, learn to cook and eat in to save money.  It will be hard but it will be worth it for the education you get and your future.

  2. Best bet would be to get a job and/or consult your counselor for a financial aid plan.

  3. Find out from the college what most students do.

  4. Most freshmen are not mature enough to pay and maintain an appartment right out of high school.  (I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about any roommates you might get to help keep costs down).  Take it from someone who has been burned a couple of times!

I would suggest 1. attend a college closer to home for a year and then transfer 2. find another college, one that has dorms 3. Re evaluate your "too far to drive" situation... I drove 2.5 hours twice a week to get my masters in another town.  I stacked ALL my classes on Tues and Thursdays and had very nice long weekends.  With as many internet classes are offered nowdays, you could prob do this very easily.

    Good luck.

  5. You can get aid that goes to you to pay for rent and food.

I had to do the same.

What happened was that the loan company sent the money to the school, and then the school sends me a check.

Your college may have to verify that the amount is appropriate to make sure you're not buying a fancy car.

I had to pay for an apartment almost 1,200 bucks a month! But I received almost enough money. I have friends who do the same. Ask the loan company.
