  1. the AO's in my command do nothing but play games on the computer all day. i am in a helo command. i hired that other commands like fighter jets do work much harder. from the AO's i know they say its a great job and AO's still get a re-enlistment bouns.

  2. It's a great job. Starting off after basic and A school you'll go to either a base, a ship, or a squadron most likely.

    1. ship: You'll maintain ordnance and weapons systems from a workcenter on the ship

    2. Squadron: You'll maintain weapons systems on the aircraft and load/unload ordnance from the aircraft stations. If I had to pick one or the other this would be my choice.

  3. DUDE!!! I'm telling you you are picking the best rate by far!! The Ordie community is one of the oldest in the Navy, and we are all tight knit. If you go to a ship you will be in G-1 thru G-5, and they all do different things. G-1 works on the flight deck with the squadrons, and in the hangar bay working on skids to hold all the ordnance. G-2 is the armory, where they handle all the small arms. G-3 are the mag rats, where the build the bombs, and break out missiles. G-4 runs the elevators. G-5 is where the Gun Boss works, and it is mainly the admin division. G-3 is the biggest division, and the flight deck guys usually have the smallest number of people. If you go to a squadron you will work on a base mainly, until you deploy where you will live on the ship for work ups and deployments. When you hit a port, you will always see a loud group somewhere, drinking and having a good time, and rest assured, the AO's are ALWAYS in the middle. Make sure you can wrestle, because as an AO, you will be EXPECTED to stand your ground, and the other AO's will constantly test you.
