  1. I have been to Cozumel, and the excursions from there are the same as Calica, only without the 45 minute ferry ride.  I personally would look for a Mayan ruins tour.

As far as Grand Cayman,  when we were there, we just got a tour of the island.  It cost $20 each for four of us, and we shared the van with four other people.  It was a nice island, but our tour guide was very biased against people with money.  I got the distinct impression she was talking about us "tourists".  There was not very good shopping.  Nobody would deal with you.  You could check out the seven mile beach, and they have good snorkeling and diving there. I would not be in a big hurry to go back there.  But if you get a chance, see if you can find some iguanas.  We found some that were about six feet long, just lounging around on some rocks.

  2. Mayan ruins are wonderful "historical tours" in MX. You need to check the excurison book for the cruise line (c/l) you will be going on, and you can even check out on the c/l website for shore excursions. When you find something and think to yourself "This sounds great!" then book that one.

For Grand Cayman, Stingray City is the #1 thing to do. There is also a Turtle Farm and it can be quite interesting since some of the turtles there are 5-600 lbs.

Shopping in Grand Cayman is not for bargaining. GC is a very wealthy island (about 200 international banks located there) and where people hide their money. There are good things to be found if you get off the main street where the tenders come in and walk back a few blocks. Still tax and duty free shopping but "it ain't MX" - you buy becuase you want the item and there is a value to the purchase, not because you talked them down on the price.

Sounds like your first cruise so go to the Port and Shopping talk on board for ideas from the staff on the ship. And have a great time on the cruise!
