Im going to Chile for 3 weeks. I have 2,500 dollars american. Will that be enough to have a decent time?

Snowboarding in Portillo, then going to hang out in Santiago. Any good bar reccomendations would be nice also.

But do you think 2500 american will be enough?

Moneywise US$2,500 should be plenty if you do not splurge on expensive hotels and restaurants too often.

Remember ski season at Portillo is winter in Chile. Santiago is a little colder than San Francisco in winter, and places further south like Puerto Montt are more like Vancouver, BC, damp and chilly, while Patagonia can be frigid. On the other hand, winter is a good time of year for the Atacama desert and places like Arica and San Pedro de Atacama because the cooler air means clearer skies (no problem of rain in the driest places on earth).

Not a bar hopper,so I can't be much help on that account. There are several neighborhoods in Santiago with collections of lively restaurants and bars.

That will be plenty enough!

They have GREAT food in Chile.

You MUST try their deserts -- many German deserts.

If you have the chance to, they have buses called turbuses and they are very cheap and yet classy and you get on and they are two stories and VERY clean and the seats are VERY soft and turn into beds and there are movies and radio and studio headphones and waiters carry silver platters with drinks and you get cool meals and they tuck you in and fluff your pillow and close your VELVET curtains...it's very niceXDXDXD

and check out Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, and Patagonia if you can. Also, Chiloe island. These are great destinations and I know cuz that is where I used to live. This is the very German part and it is very cool. They have INCREDIBLE food esp. seafood!!!

Try as much food as you can in ChileXDXDXD

I think that most any bar that looks good will be good for you.

I do, however, recommend that you go to a disotheque for the bar as discotheques are VERY VERY VERY popular in Chile. You would want to go at midnight or one in the morning and then leave probably by five at the latest.xDhttp://www.pubs.cl/pub-discoteque-santia...

They will all be pretty good and i am not sure whether or not you know spanish, but you could ask what discotheques people around you recommend...sometimes it is personal preference on the type of music...some places have more bob sinclar music type of stuff and some have more reggaeton. yeaaa...i prefer the reggaeton=BB

just see what you like -- you might even go a few times per week cuz...discotheques are the best thing the US fails at!!!xD

Chile is very open minded so don't be afraid to ask people there for recommendations=]

and remember to use "weon" when you speak and to not use the "s" and to usually use and "ai instead...

ex: como estai?

you can add "po" to the end to make it more chilean"

Wow...coming here for 3 weeks!  But USD 2.500 will be enough if you stay in hostels or economic class hotels...

Are your flight tickets considered in your USD 2.500??? This is one expensive item in your trip...

BTW, don't forget to go to Valparaíso and Viña del Mar which are very close to Santiago.

Next time, try to save money to come to the Chilean  Patagonia and trek between the glaciers here!

Yes that be enough, santiago is a city very nice, for shopping the better mall in the city are Parque Arauco, Plaza Las Condes and Mall Sport (There are shop of snowboarding).

The downtown is beautiful, visit "Palacio de la Moneda" (Chile's Government Palace), "Plaza de Armas" (Principal square of Santiago, a few minutes of the Palacio de la Moneda), "Parque Metropolitano" (At its foothills are the Metropolitan Zoo and a Japanese-style garden, and up there are also two municipal pools, Tupahue and Antilén.

You can snowboard in Portillo staying in the Inca Lodge for between USD575 & USD700 for the week with ski passes and all your meals.

If you are there for a week and do not go heliskiing or have any other excessive spend USD2500 should be plenty, if not staying in top priced hotels. You could even spend the rest of your time in mid range hotels with your remainder USD1800 for 2 weeks.

In fact unless having a 2nd week snowboarding the remainder of your money will go a long way and you can live pretty well with lots of spare cash to spend.

In 3 weeks with that sort of money you could even afford a 2nd week snowboarding as long as you keep to low priced ski accommodation.

I think everyone is assuming you have already bought your flight ticket. If coming from the US that would be in the region USD1000 to USD1250.

If you haven't already bought your flight the remainder USD500-750, after your flight and week at Portillo, would still go a long way but may have to stay in guests houses, hostels or small hotels to have plenty left for a very good time.

There are some great bars. The very touristy ones are around Calle Suecia, with more bohemian bars in the Bellavista area of town. Dotted around Providencia and it's side streets are some excellent bars.
