  1. There is a great deal to do in Rome, and some things are better in my opinion at different times.  Here is a simple breakdown:

St. Peter's Basilica & Vatican Museums

    * Do this early in the morning.  You are best off getting a tour here, not just for the knowledge, but also because it helps you skip some of the VERY long lines.

The Colosseum, House of Nero, The Roman Forum, Circus Maximus & The Mouth of Truth.

    * These are daytime things to do (morning or afternoon).  There is no need to book a tour of these, and they are all in the same general area.

Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon, The Spanish Steps, Corso, Via Veneto

While you can see these at any time, most people prefer these at night.  They are all located in a bustling area of ancient Rome that is full of shops and things to do, and the city lights make these places especially nice at night.

Villa Adriana, The Tivoli Gardens, Ostia Antica

    * These are all places that are near, but outside of the city.  They are daytime places, but you will need a car, taxi, or other transportation to get there.  Villa Adriana and Tivoli (The water gardens) are truly spectacular places.  You can see them in the same day.  Ostia Antica (which would need to be on a separate day) is Ancient Rome's port, and is widely considered to be far more impressive than Pompeii !

These are the 'Basics'  I don't know how long you will be there, but I just filled up about 5 days for you.  I could fill up another year if I wanted :-)

    Have a great trip!

  2. Definitely visit the Pope! If you go there, you should arrive at 8am on a Wednesday to get a good place at the front.

Then you should sample the delights of the ice cream too!

I booked through http://www.holistay.com/italy/rome/ but you should also try using http://www. lastminute.com

  3. Visit the Coliseum and Vatican City.

  4. These are the main tourist attractions in Rome.

    The Colosseum

    Protestant Cemetery

    Golden House of Nero

    The Pantheon

    Trevi Fountain

    St. Peter's Basilica

    Vatican Museums

    Best time to visit Rome

Rome has a warm climate and is good to visit in autumn and spring. During summer (particularly August) the weather is hot and sticky, people go to the coast most of the shops close down and it become easier to roam in Rome.

Hotels in Rome are of all ranges from budget to luxurious ones to cater the need of tourist.Hotel prices vary from season to season.
