  1. have a good time.

  2. I was in Rome last week!  We had fun, and saw all of the touristy things you listed above.  Make sure to throw the coins in the Trevvi Fountain, it is fun!  Make sure to buy in bulk if you want postcards.  All around Rome, and espicially outside the Coloseum, you can buy 20 nicer postcards for 1 euro (approx. $1.30!).  You will really enjoy dining in Rome, my favorite restaurant was in a mall, though, so be creative!  Have tons of fun!

  3. good travel...

    ih...

    lol...

i wish you a good holiday!!!

    have fun in Rome!!!

eat a lot of pizza and spaghetti all'Amatriciana!!!

    good luk!!!

    :-)

    Ciao!!!!!

  4. Forgive me but would you really allow yourself to be so influenced by what you have "heard"?  Is there not a reason perhaps why such sights that you mention are well publicised? To go to Rome and not visit these celebrated places because they are, ahem, celebrated is a bit barmy don't you think!

I am a seasoned traveller and I understand  the joy of "magical" secret places but they exude that particular feeling because there is nobody else there.

  5. Rome is expensive!  Assume UK prices and add 50%, I think.

Though all the things you might want to see are within walking distance don't try and do too much.  I think you are wise not to do all the touristy places  I don't know what you are interested in - museums, open spaces, etc. so pop down the local library and get a travel guide - the eyewitness ones are good with lots of piccies - then you can choose.  For example, the Campo de'Fiori area has something of everything. As for spectacular to eat, at lunchtime a visit to the Piazza Navona is great.  Otherwise, the restaurants with spectacular views come with spectacular prices.  Small, intimate restaurants can be great so check your guide book for restaurants near where you are staying or even better, ask the hotel staff.

  6. When in Rome do as the Romans do.

  7. just take plenty of shower gel as you will be dirty after a days sight seeing {pollution} and don't buy water from the van outside the Colosseum  3 euros a bottle and may i say not blessed by the Pope, evade the beggars and don't look at the graffiti, apart from that enjoy

  8. i'm so jealous! last sping break i went to Rome and i was with my family so i'm not sure how much money you would need...but if you have a free afternoon, i would highly recommend a place called Osita Antiqua...its similar to Pompeii with all of the ruins and such but it's much closer and it was personally my favorite part of my trip! If you enjoy exploring and being adventurous, you should definitely go!  it's like a 20 minute train ride away (i only speak english and i was able to navigate the train system and the people are very friendly and able to help if they speak english)...anyways, in my opinion it's an overlooked well-kept secret of the roman countryside!

    Have fun!

  9. I am going to Rome on the 10th Sept, so I will be asking you the same question after you get back !!

    Have a great weekend !!

  10. it may be less expensive to go to france and then italy

  11. you could eat at the via sardegna at la bruschetta, it is a side-street of via veneto. last time in rome i visited the castel san angelo, which was marvellous, above all the sight from on top. nice is also the villa borghese which is a garden.

    also visit the forum romanum.

  12. If you  are into beautiful churches/cathedrals, then you have to check out the St. Mary Maggiore Cathedral. This cathedral is across from the travel agency called Appian Line Tours. If you want to learn about the sites, that is the place to go. They provide the transportation to and from and they have very knowledgeable tour guides. Well worth the money. If he is still there, ask for Stephen to be your tour guide. He speaks 5 languages and knows much more than the other tour guides. The website to the brochure of the tours offered is as follows: http://www.appianline.it/pdf/inglese2007...

To answer your question about how much to bring, I would say about $850 - $1100 (not including airfare). Keep in mind that the dollar is only worth about sixty-seven cents over there right now. Enjoy your time in Rome. It is a very nice place to visit.

  13. i went there in 2005

I don't know, i didn't spend much but probably about $500-600?  you know, depends on what you think.  I don't know how much the tickets were because the teachers got them for us.

The spanish steps were not really that disappointing.  They've got lots of really high-end fashion shops around there!

When I went it was sooo hot and the Trevi Fountain wasn't even running!  i was kinda p.o.'ed

Remember in a lot of these chapels and churches you have to cover your shoulders... and I don't think you can wear shorts.  Some of them you can't even take photos in so be sure to review their rules.

Hm... where to eat where to eat... I think this place I liked when I went there was called Alberto's or something.  It was pretty d**n delish.

oh i forgot to say when we went there the first night, we were walking about the ruins at night.  We saw a statue thing of the mother wolf nursing Romulus and Remus.. and at that time there was a concert going on it was frickin amazing and we didn't even get to watch it all D:

  14. Eat in any pizzeria, you'll taste the difference...

Go to the Gianicolo, there's a place called "Zodiaco" where you can see the whole of Rome, especially cool at night!

Or the Pincio, which is up from Piazza del Popolo (after the two shopping roads, via del Corso and via Condotti - near the spanish steps)
