Im going to Veracruz, What should I expect?

Question

Im going to Veracruz to stay with a friend for awhile. I havent decided how long, If i like it i'll stay for a long time.

What do i expect? what should i bring? im going in july maybe until fall.

Is it a developed city? what is the culture like? im looking to party and have an adventure. I like the beach. Will i have fun? what is there to do? Hippy festivals? any strange things?

anyone been there?

Its different people is very festive, lot of fiesta, is an old port so you will find a lot of tradition in there, the food is unique, and is HOT and then Hotter,

it is beautiful but not in the list where americans go since the place is situated in the gulf and rains a lot..but its a place where you will find one of the most interesting sub regions of mexico with its own culture, different than some other places.

Go to Boca del Rio and have a party at the clubs there,

Try to go Down town  to EL Parian  and have a milk with coffee, see the elderly people dance Danzón,

The Carnaval in February is the biggest in Mexico and near near by around easter in the town of tlacotalpan , the swiming of the bulls is a festival you can not miss,

For rafting go to Xalapa and some other xtreme games,

Weird stuff, The city of Veracruz has a big g*y community and there is a lot of cross dressers, he-shes and all.

Since its the main port on the gulf of Mexico, Veracruz receive sailors from all over the world, so don´t be surprise to find at the Malecon, people playing Samba from Brazil, or an ocassinal violin from europe.

i heard its a very beautiful place just beware of the men!! they are such man whores n playas!! lol...its true though in mexico each state has their label and yea all of us mexicans know to beware of veracruz men lol

Veracruz is a city of over a million people...very developed.  It is very beautiful, full of music, and frequent festivals.  It will be hotter than anything you have ever experienced or can imagine!  Hope you can spend a lot of time at the beach.  The beaches right in the city are NOT attractive, but north and south of the city are miles and miles of beautiful beaches.
