  1. Different airlines have different rules for carry-ons...need to check their website or call them.  As to size of liquids you can carry...any size you want in your checked luggage. in Carry-on luggage, liquids must be 3 oz or less and all in one 1 qt. size zip lock bag.

  2. What airline? Most do not allow liquids or gels unless in a very tiny container (few grams or mls) and in a clear plastic bag if it's a carry-on. If it's in your check-in luggage, then it's fine. Most suitcases you find in any store are allowed but it shouldn't be too heavy. You should look up the measurements on the airline's website.

  3. Go to www.tsa.gov to get up to the date info on flight restrictions and carry-on info.

  4. After the London bombings America took precautions with liquids in cabin baggage.  American guidelines are liquids in containers that have an individual maximum capacity of 3oz with a total of 1qt in an 8in x 8 in resealable plastic bag.  Other countries quickly followed suit.  For example, the UK and France introduced a similar restriction on liquids of 100ml containers up to 1 litre in a resealable plastic bag.  Most countries do share this policy.  With regards to weight restrictions, you would need to consult your airline as this can vary from anywhere between 5-10kgs.  The dimensions also need to be considered as this can vary from airline to airline.  Airlines put these size and weight restrictions in place because they need to consider that hand luggage can shift during a flight and fall out of the overhead compartments.  Nobody would want to be hit on the head by a particularly heavy piece of hand luggage during a bad spell of turbulence.  Particularly the cabin crew!
