Spend the extra money and purchase the Airport Extreme from Apple.  It is the best router on the market.  It is not exclusive to Apple usage either.  It can be used on a Microsoft network as well as an Apple network.  Wireless N technology, USB ports as well as ethernet, and you can hook an external hard drive or NAS device to it and save files directly to it.

Get  a Linksys wrt router, change the antenna, change the firmware and then you will have a signal that will be able to be picked up from a long distance. But so can other people too!
