  1. There are a few good books for the beginner sewer that will explain all the basics, including how to use the machine. I'm assuming that you'll be buying a basic machine which can do several different stitches and can have adjustable foots. I started with a basic machine and although I'm hardly a pro, I find really hard to do certain fabrics like denim or hard materials. A more powerful machine I suppose is good and you might want to keep these kinda things in mind when buying a machine. It really depends on how committed you'll be.

here is a good book to start:

  2. I recommend a Singer Sewing machine b/c (1) They have a good brand name (2) They normally have at least one service center within driving distance and (3) If the service center is also a fabric store, 8 out of 10 they will offer you some assistance in learning how to use the features on your machine.  I've had a Singer for about 5 years now.  I use mine mostly for crafts, but I love it.  My Mother and both Grandmothers also have Singers.

  3. YOU GO JUNK SHOP AND BUY ONE, BECAUSE THEIR NEW GAGES,IN THESE NEW SEWING, GO AN LINE THEIR

I DO WEBSITES, THAT YOU CAN TAKE BASES, NO WHAT YOUR GOING BE SEWING, IT COULD ALSO HELP

WENT, BUY ASK WHAT MATERIAL DOES IT WORK WILL IN, IF YOUR BEGINER, TELL THE ASSOICATE EASY

    NOT COMPLICATED INSTRUCTIONS, GET MAGNIFING

    GLASSES TO THREAD YOU NEEDLE,

  4. Safety first! My oldest sister sewed across her thumbnail way back when, no, not across the end, but in the fleshy part.

Just remember to be cautious, but not nervous, as you learn.

Our mother made most of our clothes as we grew up, and did a fine job of it. Patience will get you there, have faith in yourself.

  5. Did lots of shopping less than a year ago when I needed a new sewing machine.  Got the Euro-Pro X model 7130 and am very pleased with it.  Not an expensive one, but has performed very well.  It had been ages since I'd done any sewing, so I was really pleased that it came with such a detailed manual.  You can check them out on line, or I think Sears sells them too.  Be patient while you're learning!
