My question is do you need to have insurance when you go to get a Temp. tag and if not how long do you have to get it?

  1. Depends on your state. Here in Texas you have to show proof of insurance to register and renew. If it's a private party such as Joe Schmow, then he doesn't care. Just sign the title. When you go to get it registered through the state is when you need insurance. If it's a liscenced dealership then they would be able to tell you if you need some sort of liablilty insurance when purchasing.

  2. One of my friends asked me this kind of questions before,I found helpful here.http://car-insurance.easyideas4u.info/ca...

  3. What you need to do is contact your insurance agent. If you don't have car insurance now, you need to discuss insurance with whatever company you're going to do business with. This needs to be done in advance.  The day you purchase the car you need to call the insurance company and inform them you will be purchasing a car and driving it home.  You'll be insured the moment you hang up the phone.  You'll have 3 or 4 days to get to the agents office to pay for the insurance.

  4. I'll try to be as accurate as possible.  If your driving the car at anytime yes you must absolutely be insured. In order to register a car you must provide proof of insurance.  Liability to be exact.  Be sure you have a smog certificate, unless of course this is some sort of family deal in which you wouldn't need the smog.  If your not sure of course you can always go online to dmv.ca.gov and double check everything on their website.

  5. Call your insurance company.  Don't be in a hurry because remember to check the VIN to make sure the car hasn't been in an accident.

  6. You can't drive the car an inch without insurance in place.  So talk to your agent before you go after your car, chances are he can fax your card to you at the dealer once you have the information about the car.

  7. in Nv. you have to have insurance before they can give you a temp tag
