  1. Ask your parents to call or contact the camp admin about your "special" dietary requirements.. if the camp can make adjustments/accommodations for kids with special diets for medical or religious reasons, they can/should certainly accommodate you too..

may not make you a popular kid though.. maybe even a butt of jokes and what-not..

Agree with the other suggestion: bring your own snacks if allowed.. for emergencies and such..

PS some councillors might be vegan or at least vegetarian..

  2. If the camp won't provide vegan meals then you should be able to bring your own non-cooked foods with you and have the kitchen store them for you.  I've cooked for some camps and we had vegan options at every meal.  You will have to call and ask about it. You won't be the only one in the same situation.

We've had kids with very restricted diets and having them bring their own food was the only way to feed them.  Corn allergy was one of the worst since just about everything had corn syrup in it.

    Granola:

    1 cylander Old fashioned Oatmeal

    1 TBS Salt

    1 stick margarine

    1 box Grape Nuts

    1 jar Wheat Germ

    1 bag shredded Coconut

    1 box raisins

    1-2 cups Maple syrup

Toast the oatmeal in a 300 degree oven with the margarine stir often esp corners until light brown.  Remove and put into a big mixing bowl.  Add in other ingredients while still warm.  Let sit so maple syrup can soak into mix

    Makes about 5 pounds

  3. Tell the camp so they can prepare for you, or...........

    leaves of 3-let it be

leaves of 4- eat some more lol

  4. i went to camp when i was 13 and almost starved to death... the only thing i could eat were the raw carrots and occasional tomato... i called my mother day three and made her come get me.

if the camp lets you bring your own snacks, load up on granola or such that you usually eat. otherwise, hope for lots of apples and other fresh fruit - maybe you can convince the other kids to trade them for your burgers...

  5. Most camps will accomodate special dietary needs.  I went to camp as a vegetarian and the cafeteria staff were excellent about making sure I had satisfactory food.  There were also two brothers there who had peanut allergies and all of their food was prepared seperately to prevent contamination.  Call ahead and ask what vegan options they can provide.  Also ask if you can bring vegan items and store them in their refrigerator (i.e. bring vegan cheese for them to use, vegan meatballs to add to spaghetti, soy or rice milk, etc.).

I have even been accomodated with vegetarian meals on long plane rides, so if an airline can offer this service, surely your camp will be able to do something as well.  Good luck!

  6. I've been in your situation. It was a weeklong camp. I brought non-perishable snack-y type things ( dried fruit, nuts - check to make sure they don't have a peanut/tree nut free policy-, dry cereal in baggies, etc... ) and just supplemented what they provided. I'd eat/drink the vegan options and then fill in with my stuff. It's only for a week, so you won't be lacking too much. Take some multivitamins with you, too.

  7. I'm sure there are vegan foods to eat. Fruits, veggies, grains, nuts, etc.

  8. hey its okay. enjoy :p. well maybe you should tell them that ur a vegan and maybe theyll do something about it or u could take ur own lunch i hope i helped :P

  9. darby a, If you want to indulge. indulge. This too shall pass. Gaurenteed ! If not stick to vegetables and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with water !

  10. clif bars and lara bars

silk soy milk in individual servings (it isn't refrigerated until after opening, so it's perfect)

i'm sure they'll have beans, tell the cook that you want them plain and explain you can't eat animal products

and yeah, eat tons of fruit and veggies
