  1. Go to somewhere like Radioshack or BestBuy and they should have them.  You will have to install it yourself, I am sure, but it is very simple.

  2. You probably have an ethernet port on your PC already.  It looks like a large phone socket.  Here is a picture of one on a Macbook.

  3. lol u already have it on your mac dear. You dont need anything. You have Wireless and Ethernet cable input, thats all you need. The only thing you may need (if necessary) is an ethernet cable

  4. An ethernet card, or cord??  When I went to school I had bought a 14 ft. ethernet cable cord, which they told us would be long enough, and it was waay too short.  I ended up buying one at the book store that was longer and cheaper.  Maybe wait and see what the situation is when you move in.

  5. Davis S gave you the best answer above, by including the picture of the RJ45 ethernet cord jack.

    On the inside is the "card".

    On the outside you plug in your ethernet "cord" RJ45 end piece into the RJ45 jack, for hardwire connectivity.

    Your laptop has a switch so that you can swap between wireless and hardwire connectivity.

    Since most dorm rooms, only have one wall jack for RJ45, (you may need a router for sharing)

    that is why you'll need the longer, 25 ft. ethernet cord, so as to run around the sides of the room, from the wall jack, or router, and  not have to trip over it, for it to reach your work area.

    Notice the RJ45 jack is just a little "larger" than a phone jack.  And the ethernet cord end is RJ45 also.  It is too large for a phone jack, to avoid confusion.

    You probably do already have an ethernet card/jack in your macbook;

    but in the case that you did not...inside the mac, on the motherboard, there is a slot that corresponds to an available

    outer slot (knock-out < removable strip of metal),

    for one to snap the card onto the motherboard, and then only have to restart the  computer for it to install with Win Plug and Play.

  6. The macbook has built in ethernet.

    It is the socket next to where you plug in your power chord.

  7. If your computer was made in the last 10 years, then you most likely already have an ethernet card built in.

    Look on the back or side of the computer for a jack that is the same shape as a telephone plug, but bigger.  That is the ethernet port.
