  1. You should be careful of pick-pockets and some places that looks like ghettos or run down.  Also be careful of snakes and other creatures....if you go into the bushes and jungle ...  Gold is not cheaper there, especially now with the devaluation of the U.S. Dollar.   Phones are about the same, but check with your cell phone company about international rates and usage.  In general ...if you go with others ...it is a safe place, just use common sense like you would do here at home.

  2. The Taxi drivers and getting mugged (robbed) on the street.

If the taxi doesn't have a working meter don't get in it, they will charge you double and you won't even know you've been had.

Also, walking on the street, especially at night, you are subject

to being robbed by one or two guys.  So be very careful. It is a

beautiful country but it is dangerous to tourists.

Also, they have cat burglars so keep your windows closed AND LOCKED, or they will come in and steal EVERYTHING!

The food and the water are safe. The food is awful, the only vacation where I really lost weight cause the food was so bad.

Phone prices are competitive.  Gold isn't.

  3. Beware of Costa Rican food. It is the most boring in the world. Otherwise, Costa Rica is a great travel spot. Wonderful people. Breathtaking sights. Safer and healthier than most other places. A little cheaper, but not much less. A little more formal than US, because of Hispanic culture -- courtesy and civility count for much more.

  4. The only problem I had there was Dengue fever, use a mosquito repelant !
