  1. the Gujrat trains are safe. there was a stry incidence of communal ritos some years back. it is history now. India is safe, a lot of english speaking people. good food and shopping. get good accomodation before hand  tho.

  2. welcome to india you feel comfort noyhing to worry, communal problems a truth, but happens sometimes. more safe in southern india

  3. I'm going to India for the 4th time soon. Train crashes happen like any where else,we had a fire on the train once! Apart from that no problems. I'd be more worried about the natives stealing your luggage on the trains, buy yourself a chain-they sell these all over the place and a padlock and lock your stuff up-don't trust ANYBODY!! Book the top bunk on the 2nd class sleeper, this way you can lay down the whole time and you get less men leering at you, cover up! They tend to put Westerners together in a carriage now(6 to a carriage) which I prefer. Flights are the same as anywhere else!

  4. I used the trains loads and never had a problem. There are thousands of train lines in India and inevitably there is occasional crashes - as there are in Europe/US.

I used A/C class (1st class) once and found it freezing cold and only slightly more comfortable than normal class. After that stuck to normal class. As someone else said book your ticket from the station at least a day in advance and get a top bunk. You have to fill in a form at the station saying starting station, destination, prefered bunk etc and like most things in India the first time you do it you wont have a clue whats going on but people are always willing to help out.

I could go on about what to do/where to go etc but best is just go and do it for yourself.....it's an amazing (and safe) place - have fun

  5. there have been a few bombings on the trains, which i believe are safe, if not a little rough.  try not to worry about it.  a plane could crash into your house while you sleep, that does not mean you should worry all night long.  you will have a great time, and im sure the risk will be worth it.

  6. before you go to india, just have a look what others say about india.

  7. crikey you are probably safer in India than you arein the UK at the moment. Whenever you get into any public transport anywhere in the world there are risks as there are if you drove yourself. Life is full of chances and you have got one of the experiences of a lifetime in front of you.

I would be looking up the local places to go and all the places you are going to see rather than looking up accidents and disasters!!!

I have travelled to some of what are considered at the moment dangerous places and fell in love with them. Zimbabwe, South Africa.

Take the advise about upgrading your ticket relax and take in every moment you have out there. Dont forget your camera and enjoy yourself.

  8. I don't really know how old you are & if your life depends on Even going over there ?

Yes ,  Danger is all around us...  any where... you find yourself , (it seems)....  If you have to go, please donot

don't ride any bus.  I am speaking from experince ,...Don't Go!

Oh!!! I know ! Let's go to Ireland, & stop at every pub from

Dublin , straight over to Cork!! my Aunt Maddie wonldn't mind.

HA!  Or come to Seal Beach And we'll go see Mickey mouse!!

I don't mean to scare you , However, why must you go to such  a Very dangerious place??

    Life!  mskate

  9. I've travelled on the trains in India, and it's absolutely fine. If I were you, I would order 2nd class tickets at least, as you will get your own seat, and if it's an overnight train, you will have your own allocated bunk. If you go normal class, you will have to fight for your space, and it can be quite uncomfortable. I would reccomend it though, a great way to see the country, and to interact with the people. If you do go by train, the sound of "chai! chai!" will live with you forever, as the tea sellers crowd around the windows every time the train stops at a station.

Don't fly, way too impersonal, take the train, and I am sure you'll love it!!!

  10. No need to worry, everything will be OK.

  11. I have no Idea why western media only exaggerate bad things in india. There is no need to worry. There was a riot in Gujrat 4 year before it started with a blast in train.

There is no need to worry, Gujrat & India is safe.
