  1. I've lived in Naples for nearly three years and I've never had anything bad happen. I'm not saying there aren't areas in the city that are bad, but most crimes that you hear about aren't murder, rape, beatings....etc... It's usually theft. I'm a Navy wife and the Military gives us a list of places where we can and can't go, and there are very few areas in Naples where were not allowed. (The only murders I've ever heard of since I've been here have been Mob related, and that's only been 3)

I know that people often think Naples has a reputation for violence, but I feel very safe here. We don't live on base and we've never had any problems at all! The people here are so wonderful!

I don't feel more threatened here then any other large city I've lived in. As a matter of fact, as far as violent crimes go, I feel much safer here as a woman then I have in any other city I've ever lived in the US.

Naples has a ton of beauty! (Yes, there is a lot of garbage, but you learn to look past it! LOL) We're here for another two years, and I'll hate to leave when the time comes.

I'm sure you'll love this city and the people!

  2. Purse-snatching is a growth industry there. Be vigilant.

  3. Napoli has some areas that are VERY dangerous (i.e. "Scampia" is a very bad area).

These areas are very poor and you should neither go there nor meet people who live there.

There are also good and beautiful districts in Napoli.

The night life: there is a lot of drug and bad people in certain areas.

Just be careful and enjoy your italian trip!
