Im going to paris france with a group need some advice?

we have planned to go to paris in january. do u think its ok to go around this time? we re going because its some what cheaper but i prefer to be able to explore do u think the weather will prohibit us?

also what hotel do u recommend? how are the people? what to do while u r out there?

do u recommend to stay at a hotel or rent an apartment for the week

last question, is 4 days a good amount of time to visit paris or do we need a few extra day???

I agree w/ Old Lady, it's really really cold in January (and windy).  Dress appropriately or see about changing plans and go in the fall.  November & December can be really great in Paris!  it's just so nasty in january.  But, you might be lucky.  Sometimes it's not too bad... So, if you're lucky you'll be ok.

Hotels...  Lots of hotels obviously of all stripes.  I like hotel tiquetonne!  it's in a cool area, is not expensive, and is a decent place to say.  But there are plenty of apartment rentals also.  4 days is ok, a full week is better; especially since a few of those days might be pretty awful...

Paris is a beautiful city, but January is not a wonderful time to go. However, if that's the only time you have, you'll just have to make it work for you. Many Parisian attractions, such as the Louvre etc. are indoors, so you can do all sorts of gallery touring. And you can take bus tours to see the city, so you don't have to plod around in the rain. But the real charm of Paris is its people, and walking around in the streets is truly the best way to see that lovely city. Put aside a few extra francs to buy rainboots and raincoats et un parapluie (umbrella) when you get there (if you need them) and we'll all keep our fingers crossed for you that the rain gods decide to play somewhere else, that the sun comes out, and you have a wonderful vacation.

Hotels are fiendishly expensive in Paris, so opt for the apartment if you can. And since most of them have a one week minimum, why not extend your stay to a week?

I went in early Feb and it was cool without being cold for the most part.....the sky is grayer tho and I only really had a few glipses on the sun in my 5 days there.

4 days would be a reasonable time to visit paris (as I just said I was there 5 days and felt I had done it justice).

It is quieter, which is nice and there are less queues to get into things!!

It did not rain (at least I don't remember it raining at all)...but even then just grab a little umbrulla and carry on...a lot of places you can go inside ......ok places like the Eiffel tower you can't ...and that was about the coldest I have felt in a long time stuck up the top, admiring the views of Paris...the wind was really blowing up there (but I don't remember it blowing on the ground!)...I also had no idea it swayed so much in the wind!!!..

Maybe check out the weather and try and plan more outdoor things on the nicer days and head for places like the Louvre on those really nasty days.....if they happen...that is.

I disagree with the previous answers.

Yes, Paris is at its coldest in January but normally this is not terribly cold. The average low is 2 degrees C (35.6 degrees F) and the average high is 6 degrees C (42.8 degrees F).

In January you will get cheap airfares and good prices on hotels. Places that are normally crowded with tourists will be more easily accessible.

And, there are the January "Soldes" (sales). So,  for anyone who is interested in shopping, this is a great time to be in Paris.

Admittedly, you won't probably want to spend as much time just wandering around on foot to explore the city as you might in warmer weather but Paris has one of the best, if not the best, public transportation systems in the world. You'll rarely be more than a few blocks from a metro station or a bus stop.

There are a lot of relatively inexpensive and perfectly nice hotels in Paris. In January you might want to check around to find special deals offered.

Four days is far too little time for a city so rich in tourist sights, museums, and hostory. A week, at least, makes much more sense.
