  1. It doesn't get very cold in Victoria. It will rarely get below freezing. Staying dry is what you need to do. A parka length waterproof coat with a hood is my standby for BC coast winter weather. It doesn't need to be a really warm coat, in fact it's better if it's not. The waterproof layer and a fleece lining is all you need. If it's a bit colder out one day, just wear an extra layer like a fleece vest or a sweater underneath. That will get you through all but the very coldest days, and there aren't many of those. If you can find waterproof boots or shoes that you think you could wear for whatever walking you'll do, that would be nice. I don't bother. I just let my feet get wet and have extra shoes to wear till the others dry out.

  2. well you dont need parkas, touques or muckalucks or anything as there are only a few snow days (below freezing) in the winter in Victoria.

You will see lots of overcast/drizzly days 5-6 degrees C  from Dec-Mar and then things get better. Best must item is a goretex or good fleece outer jacket which is rain resistant.  You can get by with light long sleeved clothing underneath but staying dry is key. Waterprooof boots are best if you have to walk any distance but personally get by on sneakers all winter.  Daffodils in Victoria are blooming by end of February, .

  3. Assuming that your classes aren't all in the same building, you'll be doing a bit of walking around uvic's campus, so as others have suggested, waterproof jacket and shoes are a REALLY good idea!!!!!

If you have any other questions about uvic/victoria feel free to send me a message! I hope that you have a great year at uvic!!!!!!!!
