Im going to the Airforce. If im stationed in Germany will I be a citizen?

If im stationed in germany for 8 years (or however long it takes to become a citizen) will i be a citizen? I really want to know because i want to live there my entire life.

  1. as an american service member you are not even allowed to apply for residency because you are not there in leisure travel or stay, you are under military travel orders and no matter how long you are there you really cant do anything, even if you marry a german, still it wont make a difference, you are under a sofa and nato treaty remember that

    You'd be able to become a citizen if you were at the Air Force base as a civil servant and held a normal residency permit for Germany.

    As a soldier stationed at a NATO base however you do not need a residency permit. If you do not hold a residency permit you cannot apply for citizenship, even if you have been stationed in Germany for over 20 years.

    Your best chance at citizenship is to either marry a German citizen or get a student visa and graduate from a German university.
