Looking for fun things to do during the day and at night. I will have my 20 year old sister with me so bars are out of the question. Would like to know of some nice places to eat. One night we are thinking we would go to a more expensive restaurant. (Maybe $30-50). Want to do some shopping but NOT the mall of America. Give me some ideas... we are up for anything!

Thanks

  1. Wrong category...

  2. There are a billion things to do there. And why wouldn't you want to go to MOA!! That place is the shiznit!

  3. Definitely go to the Uptown area of Minneapolis.  Very hip and trendy without being uptight...you can walk around the GORGEOUS lakes during the day that are right smack in the middle of the city, or check out the Walker Art Center's famous sculpture garden which is right there (that has the cherry and spoon sculpture that is pretty iconic for Minneapolis).  In the afternoon, hit up all the cute little botiques and shops around there - I LOVE Heartbreakers on Hennepin Avenue for cheap hipster clothes and there is also an Express, a North Face, an Urban Outfitters, a Ragstock, and other stuff right in the area around Lake Street and Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis.  For dinner, my favorite place of all time is called Chiang Mai Thai and it is in Calhoun Square which is right on that same corner.  Slightly upscale, AMAZING Thai food that's not too scary..get there before 6 for a great happy hour with appetizer specials.

Saint Paul is fabulous too - do a drive down Summit Avenue starting from Cleveland and ending in downtown Saint Paul (or vice versa) and check out all the old railroad mansions, then head to Grand Avenue (between Lexington and Dale streets is the best part) for wall to wall shopping (J. Crew, Pottery Barn, etc.) and coffee shops, and there are a ton of restaurants around there too.  For a lower key place to eat on Grand Avenue, you can't beat Cafe Latte (on Grand and Victoria).  It's spectacular and very laid back but amazing food.

    Have fun!

  4. Amanda... do you know there is no Minneapolis/St. Paul category?

  5. Watch them washing off the cooties from the RNC!
