Im going to the USA on vacation from Britain to stay with friends. I want to get insuance to drive thier car?

In the USA vehicles are insured not, drivers.  If you have permission to drive an insured vehicle and have a valid drivers license, you are insured.  Your friends can verify this by calling their insurance agent

You will have to get your friend to add you to their insurance policy for the duration of your stay.

As above, don't forget you must have your license with you whilst driving.

I don't think they offer insurance for you since they always do a DMV license record check, and if you dont have one then you cant get insurance. I'd recommend just giving the money to a friend let them get liability for the car, and go ahead and drive. Most major insurances wont mind if you actually drive the vehicle with someone else's name under the insurance. I drove for over 3 years with my sister under the insurance name, and my aunts the insurance agent and she said it was fine.. Just make sure you carry your license from Britain with you, and dont forget we drive on the right lanes over here...lol...
