Make sure you have good health insurance!  I don't know where you're coming from but the situation in America is pretty desperate for people who get sick without insurance.  Eat well, try to make contact with people as soon as possible.  Get extra prescriptions filled for meds that you need while you're over there at first.  

Seek out local GBLTQ groups (I assume you fit into the alphabet soup since you posted here) and social clubs to help you make friends.  Get involved in the local community.  Americans are really friendly and outgoing so you shouldn't have trouble meeting people quickly!  good luck and have fun!

You need health insurance, there's usually a few insurance companies in each city that offers affordable plans. Most major American cities have free health clinics for basic needs, so if you ever need a check up, you can go there for a free check up.
