  1. yes, there are canals everywhere. They are like alternate roads. No, you don't necessarily have to take boats. Only idiots or drunks fall off the boats. Yes, you can drown....but you could fall in a mud puddle in Ohio and drown, too. Don't worry about it. Stay on the land sidewalks and don't lean over the water.  You'll be fine. Venice is a beautiful city, full of opportunity.....I was there almost ten years ago and (sigh) would love to be leaving in a few hours to revisit! Enjoy your trip!

  2. no there is not ;) DON'T WORRY! u'll have a wonderful time! enjoy ur trip! (( I live in Venice ))

  3. If you don't know anything about Venice , why are you going?

It can't be because you've heard so much about it, or you'd know all of this.  They  whole city was starting to be in danger of eventually being under water, but they are saving that from happening, for at least 50 or so years after you've arrived and gone.  So I wouldn't worry.  I haven't heard of any major Gondola accidents or hijackings as of late, and don't think anyone has drown from falling off a boat, maybe poisoned if they swallowed the filthy water.lol  I would go with a tour and stay with them as you don't seem like a seasoned traveler, then you can quarantee you know what to do and not do, as you'll have a quide the whole time you are there. Good Luck! and remember it's Venice, not the Titanic.

  4. Hello,

No you don't have to take the boats to get around Venice.  It is true that there are canals everywhere in Venice, that is why there are no cars, but there are also bridges everywhere connecting everything.  From the train station you can cross the Ponte degli Scolzi bridge and just continue on foot to your hotel. There are three bridges that cross the grand canal, the one just mentioned, the accademia bridge and the rialto bridge and as I said before, thousands of smaller bridges crossing the smaller canals.

Yes it is possible to fall off the boat but I think you would have to work really hard to do it.  They all have side rails that come up to your waist.  Unless you are pushed and jump off, I don't see anyone accidentally falling into the water.  And yes, it is deep enough to drown in.

  5. yes they have boat buses kind of things.  there are no cars in venice.  you could drown.  good luck

  6. yes there are canals throughout Venice. there are streets for you to walk on but in the middle of the main streets there will be a canal. there is plenty of space to walk so you do not have to take a gondola unless you want to, they are expensive. actually it may be a little confusing if its the first time you have been there. there are signs to guide you to san marco square however. no i dont think many people fall off the boats, that would be yucky too. anyways you will love it, just be sure to go to san marco square. and if you get lost most Italians speak at least a little english and they are extremely kind so ask and they will help you find your way. have a great trip!
