  2. First of all, you are going to have blast!  I started WWR last year and I absolutely love it.  I have never taken a guided trip as my boyfriend IS a guide so we just use our own equipment and go; however, there are some things that private boaters like myself and guided boaters like you should all do!

    1.  Dress appropriately.  DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT wear cotton!  I dont care if it's 150 degrees, you WILL get very cold if you wear cotton clothing.  This means, shirts, shorts, socks, EVERYTHING.  Layering is always the best way to go on the river.  Bottom layer - bathing suit, duh =)  Over your bathing suit, you should wear sometype of swim trunk.  You can wear mens trunks or if you wanna be a little more stylish you can get some cute board shorts - just make sure they fit comfortably!  Up top, you should wear some sort of quick dry material shirt (long or short sleeve is up to you and the weather - since its summer you could probably do short sleeve depending on where you are).  Good materials are capalene or polypropalene (i have no idea if I spelled those correctly.)  If it is warm where you are, this should be enough to keep you comfy.  If its a little cooler, a spray top (semi - dry) or dry top (completely dry) may be used.  They also have spray pants and dry pants.  Youre guide company should either rent these to you, or give them to you at no charge for the trip.  And if its really cold - a wet suit - again available at your guide co.

    2. Wear appropriate shoes.  Sneakers are BAD.  They get VERY heavy.  Swimming a rapid is hard work - why make it harder by attaching anchors - err sneakers - to your feet.  You can either get a water shoe if you want full coverage, or you can wear rugged sandals like columbia or teva.  Neoprene socks and booties are also options, but they are more for colder weather.

    3. Listen to your guide.  Your guide will tell you everything you need to know!  His job is to keep you safe!

    4. TIGHTEN your PFD (lifejacket)  First time i went I didn't tighten it enough and when I swam my lifejacket was above my head.  Luckily I had just decided to get into some calm water to cool down and I wasn't in the middle of a rapid - which could have completely pulled it off of me.

    5. Have fun!  It's a blast!

    Hope this was helpful!

"Dress appropriately. DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT wear cotton! I dont care if it's 150 degrees, you WILL get very cold if you wear cotton clothing. This means, shirts, shorts, socks, EVERYTHING"

Make that your Golden Rule. And wear the flippin' PFD. Do those and when you takeout you'll be comfy and alive. Laters

  4. h**l...have fun.  That's what I do!!!!

  5. Private trip? Wear appropriate clothing. Bring dry clothing. Wear a helmet and PFD. Use the crotch straps. Cold water..you may need a wet or dry suit.

    Commercial trip? Read the literature.

Each river has different gear requirements. Ask questions about your river here.
