Im 14 and im looking for a good sewing machine. I want to start sewing and trying to sew simple tops. Also i'd like to sew regular jeans into skinny jeans. I really dont want to buy a sewing machine over 150 dollars. which sewing machine do you think would be best.

  1. Since you haven't sewn before your best bet is go to a sewing machine store (some have them inside fabric stores) and buy a used machine. You will get free lessons on how to use your machine. Winding the bobbin, threading it, using the different stitches. This is very important. It is very frustrating to learn how to use a sewing machine by yourself.

If you ever have problems with the machine or forget how to use a zipper foot- you have somewhere to go back to for help.

    Berina

    Pfaff

    Viking

    White

are all good machines. All stores have trade ins. So you should find a good deal on a older model

  2. What is "guna"?

You can get a nice Brother machine at Wal Mart for under $100.00.

I think you will find that you can't turn regular jeans into skinny jeans. Everything that you change, leads to something else that has to be changed. Pockets will have to be re-sized and re-positioned, the waistband has to be removed and re-built, the fly has to be narrowed... I have been sewing for 40 years and I wouldn't tackle that job.

If you get fabric on sale and a pattern from Jo-Anns, you can make skinny jeans for less than $20.00.

  3. you should check out used sewing machines from a dealer, they often have a selection of reconditioned excellent brand name machines at under $100. don't forget to keep it oiled, it tells how in the instructions. brother, singer, white, kenmore, elna, bernina.....all good machines. start small and easy and have fun. keep the jeans for when you've had some practice.

some things to look for when buying: easy threading, drop in bobbin, quiet running, guarantee for a year, and its ability to handle heavier fabrics like denim.
