  1. beautiful tropical plants or flowers would be great for centerpieces, maybe a little blow up palm tree.

  2. for the centerpiece i think it would be awsome, to have a watermelon basket with lots of delicsious fruits in it, and maybe while the guests wait for their meal you can put toothpicks next to it, so people can eat them and it doesnt go to waist! I think its the perfect centerpiece for your theme and very healty to have at a baby shower with an expecting mother! Also they are really easy to make so you can even make them yourself..heres a video on how to make them

    http://video.about.com/homecooking/Water...

  3. Get some floral foam molds (they come in like cone shapes, topiary type things).  Cover them with cloth or ribbon for a clean backdrop and skewer things like pineapple on toothpicks.  Make sure the fruit or whatever is in the middle of the toothpick and poke it into the covered foam.  The closer together they are the cooler the shape you get.  Use strawberries or balled melon for color variance.  You could even include some edible flowers (available with the fresh herbs at the supermarket) to make it festive and colorful.  They make great edible centerpieces.

Another favorite I have is making miniature food for baby showers, Sandra Lee's Semi Homemade Sweet Onion Tartlets are super easy and really good, mini cheeseburgers (make meatball sized patties, and make buns out of white bread dough and a biscuit cutter), small tea sandwiches cut out of bread using a small heart shaped or cute cookie cutter.    Super easy and yummy 'punch' is Dole 100% juice from concentrate, 2 cans of water and fill the rest of the pitcher with ginger ale.  So easy and so good.  We get compliments all the time on it!

Stick to your theme and make ham sandwiches, cookie cut out.  Fresh tropical fruits, and other luau type things would be good.  Or just make the food into like a beachy picnic type thing, sandwiches, potato salad, fruit salad, etc...  good luck!

  4. For food, you should make lots of tropical based recipes, like fruit bowls, cookies that look like hula girls, and stuff like that. A fruit arrangement from "edible arrangements" would be perfect for the type of shower your having! Also, for center pieces, there are a million cute luau things at iParty. Hope this helped! And have a great shower!

  5. Make fruit kebobs and stick them into whole fresh pineapples, as a centerpiece:)   Maybe you could find some plastic storks to stick in the top of the pineapples:) ......Big artificial leaves under the food platters, and strew lots of artificial orchids around the table and on the platters ..... Little wooden bowls with chunks of FRESH coconut, macadamia nuts & sugar cane  ......  Oriental Trading Co. has tons of luau decorations & favors on their website too

    WIKI WIKI CHICKEN SALAD

    2 c. cubed, cooked chicken

    1 c. pineapple chunks

    1 c. seedless grapes, halved

    1/2 c. slivered almonds, toasted

mayonnaise, salt & pepper - leaf lettuce to serve it on

Combine chicken, pineapple, grapes, nuts & enough mayonnaise to moisten;  toss lightly.  Serve scoops on lettuce leaves.  Garnish with orange sections ... serves 4-6

A big white cake, with mango, lemon or orange filling - iced with white fluffy frosting and sprinkled with coconut

  6. I agree, Edible arrangements are very nice but can be expensive.

Try making fruit kabobs for centerpieces.  Alternating colored fruits like, strawberries and green grapes, canteloupe and red grapes, etc.  Then attach these around a whole purple cabbage (slice a bit from bottom to stablalize cabbage).  These make pretty arrangements and keep a tropical theme.  If you will have a lot of kids attending, you can sunstitute the fruit for gummi candy (worms, bears, gummi fruit) they are great for kids parties, too.

    Hawaiian Baby Shower Centerpieces

Tropical Flower Bouquet - Use tropical flowers such as red Anthurium (the classic Hawaiian flower), Gardenias, Asian lilies, Orchids, or Bird of Paradise. Any combination of these will make for a gorgeous centerpiece and will smell tropical too!

For a very "Hawaiian" baby shower centerpiece, place a fresh pineapple, a coconut, a straw hat, a ukulele, tiki torch, hula girl, bananas, kiwis, and drape a few leis over it all. Some of these items can be hard to find so use any combination of the above list. Simple is sweet!

A Tropical Balloon Bouquet - Orange, yellow, turquoise, and pink balloons would be fun and festive and would make a great Hawaiian baby shower centerpiece. Get them the day of the baby shower (so they don't go flat) and tie them to the gift table or the Mother of Honor's chair.

Floating Hawaiian Flower Candles - There are some darling Hawaiian candles out there that float in water, so you could buy a little newborn baby tub for the mommy-to-be and fill it with water and float these candles during the baby shower for a delightful and fragrant centerpiece. Then after the shower you can give the expectant mommy the baby tub for a gift!

A Tropical Clothesline with a baby Hawaiian shirt and some baby bermuda shorts and a baby straw hat would be absolutely adorable! String it up on a wall or across the party room (somewhere out of the way of all the traffic) and hang your clothes with clothespins.

For a Hawaiian centerpiece that would also serve as a part of your baby shower menu, you could make a big bowl or several medium bowls of fresh Tropical Fruit. You could use pineapple, bananas, kiwis, coconut, mangoes, papaya, oranges, and/or guava. The bright colors of the fruit really complement a Hawaiian theme and serves well as the focal point of your party.

A Hawaiian Diaper Cake - Make your own baby shower diaper cake ( Click Here for instructions ) & decorate it with orange ribbon, yellow socks, a light green onesie, a pink bottle, turquoise baby shirt, etc. It will look bright and Hawaiian!

  8. I am having a Luau party, and the cake I am making is perfect:

    COCONUT CAKE

1 box of Duncan Hines white or coconut cake mix

    1 bag of shredded coconut

    8 oz Cool Whip, thawed

1 small can of coconut cream (usually found with the mixed drink stuff)

    Directions:

Bake the cake following the directions on the box.

Once cooled, drizzle coconut cream overtop.

Layer Cool Whip over cake (like frosting, but put a thick layer)

Finally, sprinkle shredded coconut over top and serve!

For decorations, check out www.orientaltrading.com.  Their decorations are great, and would fit a baby shower perfectly!

    Have a great party!

  9. Get a cake or two from a Publix near you. They have really good cakes for weddings, showers, and birthdays.

  10. A Luau baby shower is kind of random- the first I've ever heard of the idea.  Unique.  For food you can do hamburger/hot dogs because thats like a luau style and even maybe some kabobs.

  13. Cut a watermelon into the shape of a baby buggy basket then fill your watermelon baby basket full of colorful fruits.  Have a real pineapple on a raised cake platter and surround with sugar  glazed grapes.

Make delicious ham with pineapple sandwiches served on kaiser rolls or english muffins.  Use cream cheese instead of butter or mayo.

Good Luck and hope this helps some
