am 13 years old and I love to babysit but I am having a really hard time finding jobs. I have a 3 year old boy down the street that I babysit for on occasional nights and this sumer for a few days a week I have been watching a 9 month old boy and I am trying to find some other families to sit for occasionally. I am certified in CPR, first aid, and have taken a class. I have tried flyers to the neighbors and craigslist-dont worry I know to be safe. I am very mature and responsible and have 3 references. I have been babysitting for a year and have helped out alot with triplets who are now 2 and their sister who is 1 years old. I am not sure what I can do to get jobs? Parents: Would you hire me or what would be better of me for you to hire me? I was thinking of asking the current families I watch if they knew anyone who needed a sitter.

I am also not a sitter who talks on the phone or watches tv. I go outside with the kids and do arts and crafts.

Thanks for the help!

  1. Your idea of asking the parents you currently sit for is a good one.  People are probably more likely to trust you if they know that you are a safe person to leave their kids with.  Kids are people's most prized possessions, and have to be very careful about where they leave them, or who they feel they can trust with them.  I would say that your age might be a barrier at this point, you might be mature and responsible, but there are a lot of 13 year olds who are not.  So that's where talking to the parents you sit for currently would be helpful --perhaps they can back your ability up.

  2. What about the library (childrens section). At the library in my town they have a bulletin board which has flyers and such advertising babysitters.

You could go to your local library and find out if this is an option for you.

  3. i would hire you..

get your parents to tell friends...if your mom is like mine she knows a lot of people who could use a babysitter!

    good luck!

  4. www.sittercity.com

    check this out

  5. yea, u sound like an awesome babysitter.

i sent out flyers a year ago when i started babysitting. now, i babysit for 12 families because people tell other people about me.

oh, and its very important u only babysit for people in ur neighborhood and families u know or ur parents know. there are a lot of sickos out there who will say they need a babysitter and kidnap u.

  6. Why don't you put a hand written flyer with your name and phone

number up at your local grocery store?

  7. put out posters and online notes i guess,

  8. I was going to suggest Craigslist, but I see you are doing that already. I've found my last three babysitters there. I would also contact the local Moms Clubs and playgroups. I belong to one and we are always referring our good babysitters to each other. Word of mouth is the best way, because if someone knows you, the other parents are more likely to use you.

    Good Luck!

  9. if you want a babysitting job just say i need a babysitting job and i have no money and i need to raise my kids

  10. Don't take this the wrong way but your age is probably a drawback to parents when they hear "13" even though you have CPR, references, etc.

Some parents don't like young sitters because if an emergency happened, even if prepared, you're stuck because you can't drive and may not be equipped or able to handle every potential situation that could arise.
