ok this is like my 3rd question about weather or not a reasonably cheap tank is actually capable of keeping fish. so far ive had no luck, i was told by a fellow yahoo answerer that 7.5 litres is only capable of keeping sea monkeys (the most boring pet available)

so how about i buy a baby biorb, i know that there are already complaints of size but all i want to keep are simple hardy wcmm.

now the baby biorb is 15 litres, double the last ridiculously small tank i quoted earlier, only a tenner more and seems to have great quality.

now the question.... will the baby biorb happily accommodate a small school of about 5 wcmm. the set includes pump, light and filter.

thanks for all answers although i have a bad feeling about them :(

  1. For what you are going to spend on a Biorb you could probably get a plain glass tank holding 60 litres, and actually be able to keep some fish in it. If the cash is short, just get an air pump and sponge filter. That will support a small school of WCM in a decent size tank, and you can upgrade the filter later.

The Biorbs are overpiced for what you actually get, they look trendy, but they aren't a good design for actual fish keeping.

  2. You could keep WCMM in that tank, but they would be happier in something bigger. I'm assuming you're in the UK? Here's a link to my favorite fish website: http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk. We don't have it all in America- there's nothing here that even comes close to Practical Fishkeeping magazine. I'm not sure, but I think they've reviewed the BiOrb tanks. There's also a forum you can join to get much better fish info than you'll find here.

  3. well...i got my 10 gal aquarium at walmart for $30 i think. and it works really well, i just needed to get a heater, the filter was included. try walmart

  4. Don't get a baby biorb!!  I was tempted too they've done a great PR job on them!! But they scratch so easily and turn annoyingly like big round magnifying glasses, you have to move around and squint to see inside. They also need regular part water changes and this has to be done with a special tool as the hole at the top of the sphere is too small to get anything substantial in.  The filters and other add-on extras are pricey too.

Theres lots of cheaper tanks available, have you looked on eBay?  maybe you will find a second hand good quality expensive one cheap locally if you are prepared to collect it.

Ive been told it is actually much simpler and easier to care for a larger tank, small tanks are more fiddly.  Also you may only want a small school of wcmm now... but most of us progress to wanting more.

    Best of luck
