  1. hi tom

this is the most common problem when reinstalling windows,so for fututre reference you need to download the program "driver magician" from http://www.drivermagician.com/Lite.htm,t... utility will scan your p.c and then automatically back all your p.c,s drivers to either removable media or a memory stick/external hard drive

then when you need to reinstall your os you have a copy of all your windows drivers ready for use

as for your sound, you first need to remember the name and model of your sound device,a quick way to find this out is to download and install the diagnostic utility "belarc advisor"(http://www.belarc.com/free_down...

after running this the program will run a scan and audit your p.c,and among the list of hardware on your p.c will also be the name and make of your sound device

after discovering the name you can then run a search with google and locate the appropriate website, then among the support link on that site you should find the driver downloads

from experience i have found alot of p.c,s use the realtek ac-97 drivers(http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/down...

if your pc has a nvidia or ati chipset, however check this before installing ac-97

however steve if your still having problems locating the sound driver then either email me with the name and model of your p.c and from that i can discover your motherboard model and then your audio driver

or to find out the name of your motherboard use the quick and easy utility "cpu-z" from http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

this program will run from file(no need to install) and then click the "mainboard" tab to discover your motherboards name and model

then again using this information you can then locate the audio driver, copy and paste the motherboards name into the search bar and then when you get to the manufactuers website under the specs for that motherboard you will find the audio devices name

               any problems let me know

                             good luck stevie !

  2. Find out the name of your audio device, click control panel, sounds and audio devices look for the name of your sound card or onboard sound, if you dont find it here click control panel, system, hardware tab, device manager then look for sound and gaming here you should get the name.

Go to the makers web site and down load the driver for your sound card.
