Im having trouble getting my AIM to text a phone

i text with it all the time, so i know its working

i tried to add my friends number today but whenever i text it i get the response

Auto Response from *********** (6:30:43 PM): This phone number cannot be reached.

what can i do to fix that?

She has to have the IM option chosen on her plan and it has to be activated.  If not than you should just text her.  But i dont think that service provider matters....
