Im having trouble with my labtop!?

Question

i have windows XP. alright, every time I open up internet explorer i wait then 50 different other windows open. then i have to exit out of all them and get back to the original one that i opened with. then when i type in the website i want to go to it opens up another window and gets me to my website. now i can still go to sites, but its not letting me download anything. if i attempt to then it says it doesnt respond and then it automaticlly exits out of the window i was originally on. i did a virus and spyware sweep and had the harmful programs quarantined, but nothing changed.

first...its spelled laptop. second, i had the same problem. it was because my homepage was xtoff. all you really needed to do was restore the system, then everything was a-okay!
