I'm new to the game and so far I'm liking it, the only thing I'm having trouble with is my driver, i hit really low line drives and sometimes grounders. I tried raising my tee and also using long tees but still no luck. What am i doing wrong?

  1. If your new to the game you must understand that the longer the club, the SLOWER the tempo of the swing must be. It take more time for a long club (like the driver) to get to the ball. You Must not hurry this process. You are probably out-running the club-head to the ball, thus you hit the ball with NO EFFECTIVE LOFT. Give the swing time to move firmly and squarely thru the ball to a high beautiful finish. We can dream, can't we?

  2. I always play the ball pretty high up in my stance to get that nice loft.  do that and try not swinging hard. calm down when you swing

  3. The club face is hitting the ball too high, forcing it to stay low in flight. You could be hitting the ball with the lower edge of the club or you are hitting it too far back in your stance, which can remove some of the loft on the ball.

To tell the difference, you can look at the club face after hitting one of your grounders and see where the ball imprint is.

Try placing the ball just inside your forward instep so the ball is a little forward in your stance. This will get more loft on the club when you hit it right. If you are still topping the ball then move the ball back to the middle of your stance.

You need to remember that the driver is the most difficult club to master because there is so much distance between you and the ball. Don't let it frustrate you, just keep practicing with it.

  4. If you're "topping" the ball, causing it to roll on the ground instead of get up in the air, they're a couple things that may help.  One, topping the ball is caused by the body lifting up on the downswing, thus hitting the ball with the absolute bottom of the club.

To stop this, try to keep your body from moving up and down.  Try to keep your head at the same vertical level from start to finish.  Also, make sure your ball position is more forward than an iron.  Many say to play the ball of your left heel, meaning if a straight line were to be drawn from your left heel running perpendicular from the target line, the ball should be on that line.  It's a bit hard to explain, but go to this website for a visual aide: http://golf.about.com/od/golftips/ss/gol...

Putting the ball forward in the stance will help you catch the ball on the upswing.  Hope this helps!

  5. Perhaps the degrees of loft of your driver´s face is too straight for your level of play. A 10.5 or higher should help- If not that, move back an inch or two so you hit the ball while the drier is moving upwards.
