  1. Get off the computer and go to the lowest and most interior room in your home.  If you live in a mobile home, go to a sturdier structure or go outside and lie in a ditch!

  2. This is the time right now to plan what to do for a tornado and make sure you have a NOAA weather alert radio The radios can alert you when a tornado warning is issued at night while sleeping.

A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop and you should pay close attention to the weather. A watch it typically issued with in 2-3 hours of the event.

When a tornado warning is issued that means doppler radar has detected rotation in a storm or trained spotters have spotted a rotating wall cloud, funnel cloud, or a tornado on the ground.

If a tornado warning is issued for your area, do not panic. Go to a place of safety. Go to the lowest floor of your house like the basement. Once in the basement get under a sturdy piece of furniture or go into a bathroom in the basement. If no basement is available go in to an interior room such as a closet. If that is not available go in to an bathroom without windows. Stay away from outside walls and windows. Cover your head to protect from flying debris. Never try to out run a tornado in a car, if cought in a car and can not take no place of safety, lay down in a ditch and cover your head. Do not take cover under a over pass. Do not stay in mobile homes as they do not offer protection and can be flown as easily as cars can.

  3. If you don't have a shelter or basement, tornado warnings that involve strong tornadoes are very little help at all. If your house is hit directly you will not survive. I am waiting for a time when we all have access to precise information like gps in our car that would let us track tornadoes exactly and get out of their way.

  4. I was in that EXACT same situation last weekend.  I was home alone and there was a tornado warning.  You should go down to your basement and bring a portable radio and listen to see where the storm is headed.  Also bring a flashlight if the power goes out.

  5. im also under a tornado warning, and i plan on staying on the computer in my room, on the 2nd floor, with two windows. thats because i live in Chicago, and Chicago doesnt get tornadoes, despite all the warnings we get. so if you know that the area you live in has had no tornadoes over the past 100 years, your pretty safe

  6. get to a lower pressure zone.  This could be a basement.  If a basement is unavaliable, get to a contained space at the lowest level possible like a small closet.  Also, you may want to check on the status of family - just to make sure that they know where you are.

  7. Get to the safest place in the house.. Call your parents if you are a kid,   on your cellphone,   during and after the weather.

  8. go to the basement or room without windows

  9. You must live near me. I'm in Wisconsin. Although I'm 3 hours too late, this is what I do. Grab my c**p and run! I go to the bottom floor of my apartment and hide under the stairs because there is no basement. I grab my wallet, keys, laptop and camera (lame I know) IF there is time. And if there is time and it's late bang on your neighbors' doors to get them up and awake.
