  1. Home schooling is a great way to allow children to experience freedom and fun in learning as well as letting them work at their own pace.  It's also fantastic for boosting their self-esteem when they are being taught by their biggest supporters in the world!

I must admit that when high school comes around, home school doesn't really prepare students for social situations--and I'm not talking the generic "home schooled kids aren't socialized" c**p.  I mean, letting them learn how to stand up for themselves and against the bad things in the world-- like learning how to say no to a guy who wants to go to far, or being able to refuse a joint when offered one--things that they WILL have to face at some point in life, be it adolescence or adulthood.

A good alternative that home schoolers have during their high school time though is being able to dual-credit classes through jr. and regular colleges.  This is a great way to begin college early and avoid the nuisances of public school.

  2. I am homeschooling for Character reasons but it also was because I was tired of hearing about what drugs and sexual Innuendo that was seen everyday.

I understand that this is possibly not the norm for all schools, but for ours it was.

I have two teenage daughters that are as different as night and day, one was a bit of a rebel while the other was lost in the crowd.  Both were not getting the necessary help and standards that I expected, when I thought that the bar needed raised they continued to just lower the standards, what was norm for the public system was not normal or ok with me.  I figured I could do better.  So I quit my career and became a stay at home mom.  I LOVE IT!

We use the ACE Pace program as this was I used when I graduated from school 25 years ago....I graduated from a Private Christian School.  I needed my girls to both find healthy and happy characters and they were not getting that from public school.

I also have seen public school families find the public school system works and I'm very happy for them.

It is a choice to homeschool, a hard one.  Most people don't realize what is involved with homeschool, it's a lot of work and commitment.  You can not slack off you have to find a schedule that works best for you and try to stick with it.  I've been doing it for just under a year now and wouldn't change it for the world. I am glad that I did it when I did.

  3. I so wish I was homeschooled, but my parents are much too busy. I'm 14 and I just hate the public schools I've been to. I've only felt that I belong at Private Schools. The schools I've been to don't control their students and people get beat up and made fun of. I think home schooling is really great and have a few friends that are home schooled and love it. You just have to make sure they socialize.

  4. Oh these people and all their "myths" about homeschooling. They have no idea what they are talking about. Socialization that is a joke. Gee like I want my Daughter to spend all day in a classroom with kids her own age and then only get to socialize with the little bit of time they have for recess. Like they are being sheltered from the "real world". Our homeschoolers get to experience the "real world" everyday and get to socialize with people young and old.

Those are just lame excuses because they know how bad the Public school system is and other well they have just been brainwashed by the government to think that way. Very sad!!

Take the opportunity to try homeschooling for yourself. Give your child some time to deschool. Give her a few months to just do things that interest her and then slowly move her into a curriculum that way she can learn the love of learning again that has been taken away from her.

Remember she is not having to live up to the school standards so take your time, spend good quality time with her to learn her learning style, let her do things that she is interested in, don't push academics down her throat, but instead teach her in a manner that is slow and steady.

I wish you the best and most importantly have confidence in yourself that you are doing the right thing for your child.

If you didn't do something then you would have no one to blame , but yourself.

  5. I felt let down at first (my daughter was abused at the hand of a teacher), but I think the whole feeling now is one of disdain for the teaching to the tests, wasted time, and lack of a quality education in our local school, and that it simply was not the right fit for my daughters and what I wanted for their education.

I know that they get a better education than what the school would be and that this is the right choice for our family.  But as far as taking it personally, I have many many more things on my plate to waste too much time on it.

    Good luck!

  6. um personally i feel that it is just a way for parents to protect their child from the "bad" stuff out there instead of letting them experience life

  7. ITS AWESOME!! I love it, I can get done in one day what a traditional classroom drags on for a week or more! I'm graduating a year early b/c of homeschool too! =D

If u do it right its a great experience!

  8. it's good and bad my mom home school us

  9. Chances are if you're frustrated by the school system, it would only get worse as she gets older.  Good for you for taking this on!  Homeschooling is a lot of fun, and the children really benefit.

  10. I absolutely love homeschooling.  Many parents feel let down by the school system and I wish more of them would consider homeschooling as an option.

  11. We homeschool and feel it is a wonderful way to educate a child.  Contrary to the belief that children are "protected from real life," homeschool kids have many more opportunities to be out and about in the world, rather than confined to a classroom all day.

Anyone who would like a teacher's view of the system we force on our children should read John Taylor Gatto's book Dumbing Us Down.

  12. Yea, I was REALLY let down by our school. My daughter was there in K=2  and she had learning problems that they just would NOT help her with. THey fought wiht me continously when I tried to get her help thru special ed.

When I finally took her out to homeschool the teacher said

' I am so sorry, teh adminstrators just would not let me help your child'.

People just dont' realize how corrupt schools are with special ed.

  13. I am planning to take my daughter out of public schools temporarily. She has been injured for one, but she is also falling way behind in reading and writing. She is excellent in math, but I think, as an education major myself, I can hopefully get her caught up with her class by fall. She is in second grade. If I do not take her out she is going to fail for certain.

My mother who had no education training was able to do this for my brother many years ago and he caught up with his class.

  14. i am home schooled, and i love it!!!! personaly i think home schooled kids are smarter (no offence)

i say that only because i have been home schooled since

2nd grade and in 3rd grade i was on a 6th grade reading level.(not bragging)

so persoaly im all for homeschooling!
