Im hosting my 21st birthday as a murder mystery dinner party

Question

I am looking for different ideas to decorate the function room. It is a 1920-1930's gangster theme, Murder at the four dueces. The party is at night and it is a dinner party with dinner being serviced.

That's awesome! Draw some inspiration from the board game CLUE and what it looks like.

Some specific ideas: real or faux chandaliers, real silver (if you don't have any, borrow), a fancy yet old-fashioned table cloth, a stash of fake money, alcohol of course, and have a couple cigars laying around.

An idea for food: lamb with mint sauce. And gin!

What an awesome theme!! Go with as much black as you can .. use red lighting too .. always gives it and old school eerie glow. Even get masking tape or chalk and do body outlines on the floor ... simple but looks great. Hope you have a great time!

WONDERFUL! .... That's the Flapper Era, with Prohibition!  You can do a Speakeasy theme:)  People need the "password" to get in:) ....  Buy some metal washtubs (available with patio supplies; used to keep ice & drinks in at parties) and serve punch out of them (ala "bathtub gin"). Get some movie posters for old James Cagney films, and hang them around - or "wanted" posters from the 20's .....  Play Roaring Twenties music (Charleston) .....How fun!!

I like the chalk outline idea and also the wanted posters, try and make some up of your partner or friends if you can.  If you make the room dark and gloomy you should include a small torch per 2 guests (don't use candles!) it might be hard to read any clues etc.  Also don't forget to make a 'Four Dueces' banner for the entrance. A burly tough looking bouncer at the front door would be a good addition as well.   I had a 50's theme one some years ago (just at home) it was a fun night.  Make sure you start the game on time and get through it before everyone has too many drinks!  Have a great night!
