  1. Most people can't run a mile not because they are out shape but because they don't build up their endurance.

Practice at least three times a week. Run a quarter mile and walk the rest, slowly increase the distance you run but always finish the mile with each practice. You should be doing under six minutes before the school year is over.

  2. Well...that would be really good if you could run a mile under 6 minutes the average middle school time is around 6:30

You would have to prepare ahead of time...practice endurance and going up hills

Do not eat any dairy the day of the race and drink lots of water before the race! Pasta is good the night before.

If you want to get under 6 minutes you will should be in front of all the other runners and passing many (depending on your classmates' speeds)

You will have to run at a good fast pace the whole time without stopping

  3. Good job. You need to pace yourself. Make sure you relax when you run and keep your arms moving.  Your arms and legs are in sync so the faster and more relaxed your arms are they faster your legs will move.  Also move your arms cheek to cheek not across your chest.  Make your last 300m the fastest and get out in the beginning but pace yourself the rest of the way.

    Good Luck!

  4. okay...

breath with your nose...never with your mouth.

    keep your arms relaxed.

the last part of the race make sure you sprint as fast as you can

    keep practicing every day!...

if you will do a mile on race... practice like mile and a half or two miles..

so you can be ready for more and you can take more.

just make sure not to drink before race so you don't get cramps =]

    hope that helps

  5. the tip is.........deep breathing. In through your nose and out through your mouth. helps alot.

  6. go running every day, i run a mile every day in the summer

  7. run every day but EAT ALOT!!!!!!  like good stuff, meat and protein veggies etc  every type of food ( minimum fat possible

make sure your work outs are hard, but not hard that makes u hurt, because you cant run a mile with an injury.

some workouts u can use  are intervals,.. so run like s sets of 400 m runs, and in between each 400m, do a faster 100 m, and take breaks too.

a few days of the week just take a 45 min run, or jumprope or bike

2 days of no practice can affect your breathing, so make sure you do this once every day, for atleast 30 minutes. Plus, the mile requires leg muscles and breathing/good lungs..

    good luck

  8. breath right, run after practise, push your self hard, and drink water

  9. i am in eighth grade and i just one the mile and two mile in my first meet this season in 11:09 and 5:11. also my half was 2:21 in the four by eight. you have to push your self past your limits. you must tell your self to keep going faster. no matter how hard you work push yourself. don't let your form slack towards the end of your race either. good luck

  10. The only way is practice.

Wear really good supportive shoes, stay hydrated, and time yourself every day.  Push yourself to trim 5 seconds off, then set your new goal for 5 more seconds.  Don't expect it to happen "tomorrow" if you are not there yet.  Good luck!

  11. keep runningg

  12. PRACTICE!!!! drink LOTS of water...when you run look straight ahead..my brother's track coach said that helps u run faster..eat healthy...PRACTICE!!! and always have a good attitude!! U CAN DO IT GO GO GO GO GO GO!!!

  13. Practice, practice, practice

  14. DUDE THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR A 7TH GRADER, TO SUGGEST TO NOT TRY IT ULTIL YOU ARE IN 8TH GRADE.

  15. breath, when running the mile,

    Practice every night

  16. pratice

  17. If you can run the mile, you are probably fine in the endurance area. What you want is speed. What you should do is go and run a 1:27 quarter mile (have one of your parents mark it out in their car, on a bike or find a track somewhere). It might feel fast, but run as close to that time as you can. If it feels too slow, run it anyway. What you want to do is get your feet used to that pace. run one. check your heart rate. wait for it to drop to 13 or 14 in 10 seconds. run another one. wait for it to drop to 13 or 14 run again. wait for it to drop to 13 or 14. Once it takes more than 4 or so minutes to get to 13 or 14, stop for the day. Alternate speed days and long runs (2-5 miles, depending on your endurance). ON the long runs do 3 or 4 accelerations where you start slow and speed up to almost a sprint over 10 seconds or so. Just spot something a little ways off and accelerate to it. As you get comfortable with your quarter mile pace, you can try running 200 meters (1/8th mile) or a half mile at 42 seconds and 2:55 half. They may be a little fast at first, but once you can run them conistently a little faster you should be fine for the mile.
