I`m in NY right now I`m here because I invited by Columbia university ?

I`m in NY right now I`m here because I invited by a professor in Columbia university to show my work in one of his classes thats how I get visa , my visa will expire in 1 month and half and I`m still working with him on a project for free , so he wrote a letter like the old one that I got my visa with from Columbia university that says they still need me and ask for an extension on my visa , so I have the letter what els do I need and where do I have to go for my visa extension ?

You need to file the extension of your visa. Also, I think you should talk to the University who handles all the visa. I'm sure big university as Columbia should have a staff who does that all the time.
