I'm in a combat support ARMY reserve unit. I just graduated AIT. I am inquiring when I should expect to deploy. My unit last deployed in 2004. I am a chaplains assistant. I do not mind deploying. I'm actually excited to possibly deploy in the next year or so? Isn't it true that typically get 1 year notice before you deploy. Additionally, don't most reserve units deploy once every 5 years.

  1. We've received as little as a weeks notice prior to a deployment ... and only after being back from Iraq a month.

There are too many variables to determine it, unless its already posted up somewhere or somewhere in your unit knows.

  2. when you are in the reserves it is true they are supposed to be on a 5 yr cycle although remember its still the government so you cant depend on that. but no you dont get a year notice my husband found out on a saturday that he was leaving the next thursday. there had been rumors but thats about it. if you would like to deploy you can always ask your commander because chances are they will take you as a volunteer because i know now the new thing is taking a few volunteers from the unit and attaching them to another unit,

  3. Generally units receive an alert 9 to 12 months prior to deployment. Regarding the Army Force Generation Process (ARFORGEN) Army Reserve units are on a 5 year cycle, but units can move up in the cycle. Also, individual soldiers can cross-level to mobilizing units at any time.

Basically, be prepared to deploy at any time with or without your unit.
