  1. There are a number of possibilities.  Either a neighbor complained about the smoke or the receptionist actually smelled it.  This is quite likely with the way the ventilation system works.  There is also the possibility that a silent smoke alarm is placed in the bathroom or other places in the room to ensure people don't smoke.

Next time, tell your fiance to get off his lazy *** and walk outside.

  2. Some hotels have been known to have silent smoke detectors in the bathrooms for non smoking room, Don't know why but thats how it is. To me that seems dangerous because what if it was an actual fire?! Oh well smoking is no encouraged these days so hotels do what ever it takes to look and act high class.

  3. Most hotels have a shared ventilation system as well as very sensitive smoke detectors.   Either your neighbor complained or the warning on the smoke detector activated.

  4. camera's dude. i am not bullschitting you. my brother travels alot, it's his job, and he know's this schitt. he started up a casual conversation with a waitress in the lobby restaurant, not about camera's, just talking and when she mentioned that he bout pissed his pants. they put them, not in all motels he said, in the vents.

  5. Most motels and hotels have smoke sensors in the rooms and in the bathroom vents.Just be lucky that they did not charge you for cleaning the room upwards of $200.00 plus a major fine from the local police dept. As it is a crime in some states to ignore the smokeing laws

  6. We have a no smoking policy in our guest house.  Smoke is then easily identified.  Last weekend we found cigarette burns in  a brand new carpet  guests denied it was them even though cigarette butts were found in the room and in a plastic jug they had used as an ashtray.   All because some person decided to break the law and smoke within the confines of the bedroom so I agree with anyone informing the hotel owners of smelling smoke from a bedroom. I can't believe that a hotel would put themselves at risk with cameras, but will agree with smoke detectors.  It is serious to smoke when you can put other peoples lives at risk within a hotel environment, as well as damaging property.

  7. Break it down..... you said 20 seconds.

A hotel is not going to place themselves in a position of legal liability by having cameras. Especially in a bathroom . Think of what that would entail even if they did. Having a guy sit in a room and monitor the activities of everybody in every room. It is not feasible.

Smelling smoke through a ventilation system 2 floors down that fast? Not feasible. Someone in an adjacent room happening to be in their room at their time, smelling it and deciding to call the desk? Calling the desk and them calling you would take more time than that.

There is only two ways to go here. A silent smoke detector if it was your first night.

Or you had stayed more than one night and a maid alerted the receptionist.

  8. She could have smelled it.  Let me tell you, there is a good reason for non-smoking rooms.  My mom has asthma and just being in a room with old smoke in it (it gets in the carpets, curtains, everything) can cause her to have a serious attack that would put her in the hospital.  I used to smoke, I know what it is to crave a cigarette but people shouldn't make other people sick because of it.

  9. There almost certainly are not cameras but hidden smoke detectors are a possibility.  Beware that most hotels charge a hefty smoking fee if you smoke in a nonsmoking room so your best strategy is to play nice and beg forgiveness.

  10. I stay in hotels about 250 days out of the year, and have seen them do this. Now-a-days most hotels are going non-smoking and if your not around smoking to much, you can tell alot more than people are around that all the time. So that how they detect that. and yes it's illegal for a camera in the rooms. they would never do that unless maybe a old hotel. but i doubt it. And you may check next time, cause there are usually a fine for smoking and they don't have to see you, just walking into the room and tell there is a smoke oder.
