Im in college in england (im 18) can i renew my greek passport and not do mandatory military obligations?

hi im 18 and male and i wana renew my passport to go to australia in 25 july im in college at the mo and but can i do it without doing mandatory military obligations? if so how long would it take?

  1. You probably won't be able to renew your passport unless you complete your miltary service. You will probably be asked why you haven't completed your military service and they may only issue you a new passport under the provision that you return to Greece to complete your service. If that happens, I guess you could just lie and say you will, but I don't suggest this as you will get caught and will be forced to do your service eventually. You may even be arrested for draft dodging.

    Compulsary service lasts 12 months in the army, 12 months in the airforce and 15 months in the navy.

  3. If the embassy asks you about the renewal of your Greek passport and finds out that you haven't done your military service they may only approve for a passport for you for 3 months (which will mean you can only really get a trip home until your service is done).

    It is unlikely they will give you a full passport or even one valid over 6 months (which is how long it needs to be valid at the time of arrival to get into Australia as a foreigner).
