Im in college! whats cheap to buy for groceries? ?

i spent 80 dollers for like thing i actually need like paper towels, laundry detergent, soap, etc and rest on waters, juice, butter, cream cheese, eggs, milk cereal, bagel. what are thigns i should buy and easy to cook!

  1. Assuming you are a dude and nutrition is not as important as calories, I recommend the following foods:

    Asst Ramen (this is also for convenience) I like the "oriental"

    Mac and Cheese

    Bacon for the Mac and Cheese

    Pork and Beans

    Hot dogs to cut up and put in the pork and beans(beenie weenie)

    Tuna Helper Alfredo and basic ingredients

    Frozen peas and triscuits for the Tuna Helper(top with the triscuits)

    Bread PB and J, and fixing for grilled cheese

    Tina's Frozen Burritos-- I buy them by the dozen still.

    Spaghetti and Prego Spaghetti sauce

    Store Garlic Bread

    Jimmy Deans Breakfast Skillets and Eggs (most recco

    mmended)

    Asst Hormell Foods like Chili, Beef Stew, Corned beef hash.

    Tortilla chips and salsa and cheese dip

    Asst soup( but this has gotten expensive lately)

    Instant rice.  It's not bad and it's fast.

    Donuts-- Donuts are awesome.

    I make Nacho casserole from broken and stale tortilla chips with refried beans, cheese and salsa.  I also like to cook up black beans with half a jar of salsa, dump in a bunch of shredded cheese and eat it with chips as a dip.

    Foreman Grills are great for chicken b*****s(marinate in Italian Dressing)

Cereal, whole grain bread, canned fruit in it's own juice, Jeno's pizzas.  Easy Mac, instant oatmeal, store brand cereals.  Applesauce, store brand peanut butter, store brand soups, and eggs.  (Eggs can be made so many different ways - hard boil, over easy, scrambled, etc.)  Look for sale items you can stock up on when they are marked way down.  You will find the necessities that are non-food items will increase your bill.  Store brands many times work just as well as the more expensive brand names.    

  3. If possible, buy a small microwave and a crock pot.  Be sure to read the booklets that come with both.

    3. Don't forget the top brand frozen dinners at your local supermarket. Add canned veggies, canned fruit as side dishes.

    4. You can heat 1/2 cup of water and pour into a cup or package of oatmeal for breakfast. Packages come in a box of 12 found at the supermarket. This is a good healthy way to start your day.

    5. Ramen noodles with flavor packets enclosed.  I like the chicken best.  The packages of Ramens is usually around twenty five cents.  College kids live on these.


  4. Mac & Cheese :)  Cheap & easy to make.  Buy cans of chick peas, red beans, etc.  They're usually like 2 for $1 or something like that.

  6. I know this will sound dumb, but it is what u buy when yur on a budget. U should buy bologna and bread (preferably wheat, cuz it is healtheir). Then u could eat it fried or not. Plus, it's cheap. And despite what some may say, bologna tastes good. And they usually have sales on these two items, like two for ones, or slashed prices with a store card. So u should try it. Hope I've helped.

  7. make a tuna casserole...1 can cream of mushroom soup..a can of milk...add some cheddar and a can of flaked tuna...whisk and smooth out...add to drained pasta in a casserole...top with cheese and crushed potato chips..bake at 350 about 25 minutes...or until hot and bubbly...you can eat this for days...nukes well...cost all together maybe $6 for the whole thing...you'll get at least 4 meals out of it

    make some taco meat...1 lb ground meat...a pkg of taco seasoning...make according to pkg...1 night tacos...another night taco nachos...tortilla chips on a baking sheet...leftover taco meat...some shredded cheddar...in a 350 oven maybe 3-5 minute...watch it as the chips can burn....top with salsa...or not...you get 2-3 nights of meals for like 7 bucks...how about ravioli...store bought frozen rav's...small jar of store bought sauce...add some parm...even the one in the green cannister is fine...just cook rav's (they usually have one brand or another on sale)...heat sauce...pour over rav's..a bit of cheese...voila...hope this helps

    Spaghetti is cheap and  you can eat it more than once. Tuna, mac n cheese, the Marie Callender's frozen dinners are like $2.50 and are really good.
