  1. It sounds like a sun jelly or a moon jelly.  They do sting (it has nothing to do with being threatened it is involuntary).  The sting is very mild.  Wash it with sand or sea water fresh water will intensify the sting. Sometimes when there are a large number of these jellies, being in the water with them can be irritating and cause your skin to sting or itch.  Portuguese man of war are the dangerous ones and they are larger because they are actually a cluster of jellies.

  2. Babies are not harmful.  Their sting feels like a light pin prick without breaking the skin.

Adult stings are truely painful and will leave a large red burning rash on the skin.

  3. prbally

  4. Not all jellyfish sting, some don't have tentacles to sting.  I think that these types will sting.  To treat a sting, either soak the sting in sea-water or vinegar.  Contrary to belief, urinating on the sting does not help very much.  It is mainly used to remove any extra tentacles.
